Tiote's Witch Doctor

Ok sooooooo, Ashley claimed that the reason behind the renaming of the stadium was to showcase to a company where their ad's etc... could be placed and what the sponsorship could bring them. Which him or Llambias claimed could pay for a new player through the door.

Now lets assume we get this sponsorship and he claims the money from this paid for our striker in hindsight which happens to be Cisse.

The question is which would you prefer.... would you prefer that Cisse had never arrived or would you prefer that we kept the money and the stadium had continued to be named St James' Park.

How does 100+ years of heritage rival 13 goals in 12 games? Does it suddenly become less important, or would you gladly sacrifice our main man at moment to have the name back?

Woah! Good question.

This year has been fantastic. But when it comes down to it, a Cisse is for Christmas but St James' is for life.

Good answer but are you seriously saying that if you could go back, knowing what you know now and change this turn of events you would change it? I'm not sure I could bring myself to do it. But then again the stadium change was never really a huge deal to me, although of course I would always prefer it being SJP.

Hmmmm, I suppose the 'half way house' is that we have Cisse, but everyone still calls it SJP - as do many of the 'old school' presenters on TV.

Ashley made (in my own words) a stupid choice with the whole stadium naming fiasco, given his history with the fans. But if that really was the money that meant we bought Cisse, then it could be a big step in te club moving forward. Confused.

Meditate on this I will.

2 questions for you:
- Would you rather have finished higher in the league (say above Newcastle), or to have won the FA Cup?
- And how does it feel to have achieved neither of the above?
(note, we have Cissse and still call the ground SJP - so we kind of have BOTH)

Don't overlook the fact that the entire SJP stadium had virtually every square inch of space already covered by the
****e Direct logo before the physical name changes were fully implemented.

In the hypothetical situation as posed by the original question, the star performer for the sponsorship money is
appealing although I get the aftertaste of pure BS by Lambias being pure spin for justifying the SD branding
'experiment' knowing that to remain viable player investments would still have to be made into the club from
other revenues albeit possibly at a slower rate. This is being portrayed as tough love take it or leave it by Ashley
when the reality is any number of shades of grey in between. The damage to the NUFC/SJP brand by the ropey
SD vulgar graphic has been made and the fact there is no money bring created at present by doing so is being
distracted by talk of a prospective new sponsor - evidence from expert consultants suggests any company
or brand would comfortably give the whole minefield issue a very wide berth so were stuck with SDA, a bitter
taste in the mouth and sod all else to show for this 'idea'.

The only redeeming aspect is the genuine reluctance by other parties beyond just the fans to ditch the SJP iD!

<laugh> <laugh> Ah, Liverpool fans, always good for a bit of chuckle, never with them, just AT them.

Cisse £14 mil
Krul £10 Mil
Tiote £11Mil
Ben Arfa £8 Mil

Anyone who says more than this need to remove there black and white tinted specs.

Unless Lolerpoo want them. In which case, add a 0 at the end of each of your valuations ;)

Thing is, if Cisse gets us into the Champions league (Always have to hope) then we'll get 20million from that aswell. That's enough to get us another 2 or 3 players, which will potentially give us the chance to win a cup next year. IF that was to happen, then would you really take the name SJP over winning a trophy?

i'd say 3-4 players with 20mill. We don't need to spend masses of money on players, we've done that once already with cisse, who is making a mark for himself. All we need to do is focus on back up for defence and and a possible DM aswell incase we can't always depend on pechino when tiote is at acon or injured

Great question...

Am I wrong in thinking your stadium can't be brand named in european competition? If that is the case then Cisse HAS got St James' Park into Europe.

All in all, football is a results business and as such is a fickle fickle industry. I will always call it St James' Park, as will the majority of the footballing world...Eventually I think the name will return to it's original and we'll talk about it like we do about the championship season (a sense that we came through it all together) but we'll talk about Cisse's first season like we do Sir Les, Shearer, Tino and Michael O...wait, no!
