A truly amazing game,on an amazing day.Went right to the final play,incredible.Well done Ireland,worthy champions.Roll on the World Cup,can't wait!
Nice to see England giving a right good go, and beating the French is always a bonus. Congratulations to Ireland, worthy winners.
This. Amazing to put 55 points past France and still not win the Championship. (I did predict that we'd win by 20 points!!). Really looking forward to the World Cup. Congratulations Ireland............see you in the WC.
Just back in my hotel in East Croydon after spending the afternoon in the heart of Chelscum territory (West Brompton) watching the rugby. First of all, I have a few beers so forgive me for posting under the influence (very abnormal). I honestly think Wales should have won the 6 nations. They steamrollered Italy and threw it away at the end. Secondly, Ireland did very well to score 40 points on Scotland. Thirdly, England should be shot for scoring 55 points against a top class team and not winning the championship. lesson to be learnt, defence contributes to the points difference just as much as attack. Fourthly, overall, I think the best team in the Championship won. Lastly, Hammersmith Junior, do you still think Ireland are not a "top team"???? The first team to win back to back 6 nations Championships in something like 40 years. Will you now give them some sort of credit?????? What a weekend, Villa losing, Sunderland losing, Leicester losing and Burnley losing and Ireland back to back 6 nations Champions. 3 points tomorrow and it is the perfect sporting weekend. You R's;
Junior, you put the Keith Wood curse on your team last week with that one Seriously though, a phenomenal day. May never see the likes of it again. That's one in the eye to the folk who want the games played at the same time. What drama we'd have missed out on. I've never seen a more haphazard and leaky French side in my life. There were gaps everywhere in them. Then again, I'd venture that England and Wales fans would see the faults in Scotland whereas I didnae even notice them! It all depends from what angle you're watching the games Well done to all teams/players involved. They're a credit to their sport. There's a gulf between the prestige of rugger and soccer IMO. You couldn't compare them.
Finally, it was great to see a few lads from the North waving a N.I. flag in the pub joining in the singing "Championeesssss". You see what we can achieve when we are UNITED.
And lads take Finglas thoughts through to tomorrow......look what we can achieve when we are united..... COME ON U RRRRs
Was out all day yesterday so only saw fleeting updates on my phone but what a day for Rugby Union, all three matches providing drama in bucket loads. Great effort by the Welsh, followed by a thoroughly professional job by the Irish and then England showing all the reasons they have failed to dominate this championship with kamikaze play under pressure. If the Irish make the most of their kind draw they should have a great chance of making the final in the World Cup...
Fabulous day's rugby yesterday and well done Ireland, worthy winners (again!) The second winner yesterday was the game of rugby. Spellbinding. Here's hoping we get some of that excitement at Loftus Road this afternoon.
? I think the only way England were going to beat the French by 26 points was to take some risks and attack. That they nearly did it and scored 55 points is hugely impressive, by far the best result of the day. Equate it to City having to beat, say Southampton 6-0 to win the Championship and winning 8-3. Except that there is no way they would get any where near that. Well done Ireland, best organised, disciplined and structured team, worthy winners.
It was a great win by England but they've conceded sloppy tries throughout the competition and that has cost them in the end. That wasn't a great French side and falling one converted try short will grate for many of them who knew they were good enough. The difference in the World Cup will be small margins and giving it away won't help. I think the Irish have possibly their greatest chance with this draw. Whereas England and Wales will go into a group in which Australia will go in at the back of their season and fully up to match speed, a very difficult group. Whatever happens it'll be hard pressed to produce a better spectacle than yesterday...
But for a Scottsman dropping the ball in the last minute of their game,i do believe I would've been proved right!
You are a very strong side mate,and you play to your strengths.However I stand by my opinion that only 3 teams are capable of winning the World Cup.No team in my book is a truly great team until they have won a World Cup!If Ireland can manage to do that,especially on enemy territory,then I will doff my cap to you and seek repentance.As good a team as you are,i just can't invisage it.
You were wrong. They weren't good enough. Stop with all the excuses. Last week it was injuries and now its a Scottsman dropping the ball (wasn't the last minute. Ireland missed a simple penalty in the last minute) Show a bit of humility for God's sake. You're the only one out of all the lads on here who can't seem to do so.
What a great day of Rugby. Wales did what they had to, Ireland did what they had to and England all but did their bit too. Three great performances and a notable mention for France who continue to frustrate. Having closely watched the development of all the Northern hemisphere sides over the last few years, things couldn't really be closer. Ireland under Schmidt have become like Chelsea under Mourihno, ruthlessly efficient and economical often substituting flair for simple hardwork. A good friend of mine who is a well known rugby analyst assures me that Schmidt has deliberately restrained this irish team and won't fully unleash the backs until the world cup. Let's see. England have a very young team full of potential with the best full back and outside centre in the northern hemisphere. Although their pack no longer dominates teams, their back line is very impressive and full of pace. In Lancester they have a great coach who unlike many of his predecessors is genuine, humble and likeable. Wales IMO continue to underperform. Why? Because IMO they lack consistency. On their day they are the best of the Northern teams but lack a plan B. With a better coach they would be real contenders. The group of death containing Wales, England and Australia looks very interesting. Australia are my bet for the World Cup which leaves England or Wales going home early. Impossible to call now as still a long way away but for me it depends on what Wales shows up. The only Northern Hemisphere team that can seriously compete IMO are France. Why you ask? Because they always do. They always bring their A game to the World Cup and have the X factor. The southern hemisphere teams will work out the rest of us but they know France won't be intimated at all.
