Sadly the manager has very little say in these things. Fat Mike will simply sell to the highest bidder.

Today I am magpie, i.e. at a club with zero ambition but one day will play at someone decent. Sooner rather than later Moussa, sooner.

Don't blame the guy one bit. Why would you want to stay at a club that is quite happy to plod along and doesn't want to win anything. We're a feeder club for the top 4. Nothing more.

But isn't everyone? In our entire history we have just ONE example of loyalty above our station - Alan Shearer. Who, whilst an all-time great, was actually born in the area. So what does that mean? It's the same as Matt Le Tissier, it's a real anomaly. And even when he stayed there was the threat of winning something, so not necessarily just blind loyalty. You'd think we, as well as everyone else, would work out our place and just accept it, but no - we've got to endlessly complain about ambition. We'll win a trophy if we can, on each respective day, out-perform the team we're up against. The fact we are a comfortable mid-table Premier League club means we should have more chance of winning the FA Cup than about 100 other clubs, and that's down to the ownership and management at the club. That we complain in 9th place, utterly solvent, above Everton and Liverpool, is nothing short of baffling.

I think a lot of you have a problem with football and won't admit it. I think you're falling out of love with the game because of capitalism, because of idealism, because of the media and the need for instant success.

Instant success? Any would be nice. One thing you can't accuse Newcastle fans of is demanding Trophies. Bad thing is, Ashley knows it and we play straight into his hands.

The harsh reality is that the vast majority of players have no feeling of loyalty to the club, fans, shirt, badge or anything else other than the paycheck, moving up to bigger and better clubs is only the dream because they know it means more money, playing in the champions league = more money, winning a cup = more money, playing in a world cup = more money, every game at the 2nd tier of PL clubs is just getting in the shop window for the next move up the ladder.

I am falling out of love with the modern game. It's not football any more - it's an entertainment industry with a focus on profit. The club as such is no longer tied to the local community. The players are a different world to the average fan. Except, the average fan can no longer afford to attend games because of pricing. Not going to get in to some neo-marxist class argument, but football really is no longer a 'working class' game. Sky destroyed that.

I prefer the old ramshackle St James. The facilities were ****, but it was a community and had atmosphere. The ground now, whilst impressive architecturally, is just an arena akin to a cinema. For a lot of people it's a day out, go to watch some football, buy food, merchandise, take photos and add it to the scrapbook. For those that can afford it. I hate what football has become. Yet, I am being a hypocrite in that I still go to games. The bug is still there, but it slowly dying. I no longer enjoy watching the game as I once did. Not just Newcastle, but the game as a whole. There is too much of it on TV. It's the same teams winning everything year after year. It's becoming like dare I say the WWE, with pantomime villains. It's predictable gash most of the time. Rant over.
