The original reason I asked was because when Bruce started with this system, Sess in the hole, the vast majority of us were not happy AND it plainly wasn't working. I also think it's easier to chop and change a losing team. However O'Neil has come in and stuck with the same formular (more or less) Sess' in the hole. I originally wanted him to play out on the left but now I think a free role off the front man suits him better. Also we have had the sudden arrival of Mcclean and I think we all want to stick with him on the left as he does excite us.
You can look at this system we are currently playing as 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 or even 4-3-3!
For me our midfield is now picking itself (being Larrson, Vaughan, Cattermole, McClean) and I think Gardner can count himself unfortunate not to start, although he gets involved in every game at some point. Our two wide men provide excellent balls into the area and for me Sess' looks at his best running at central defenders. So a target man makes perfect sense to me. However would you play Sess' upfront instead of a Wellbeck/Gyan combo or what seemed to work a few months ago before injury (Bendtner/Wickham). After all will Sess' get more than 10 goals this season?
I have to say the main two reasons we go to the match is to be excited and to win. (No offence to Newcastle fans but there last home win was awful (they had 1 shot and scored) we all have to win like that sometimes and I know Newcastle were a different class against Man Utd (I've only put that in for our regular mag visitors). Sess' does provide that bit of magic to get you out of your seat as does McClean. It is such a rare thing in football these days to see a good dribbler or a man who can beat a man (not relying on pace).
So for Now I'm going to stick with Sess' in behind a lone striker, until MON shows me it works better another way. I know most people would replace Bendtner with their granny but I think a lot of people do underestimate what he brings to us. Yes I agree he needs to score more goals though.
