Anybody heard any recent news on Simonsig ?

He had a small injury which ruled him out of the Peterbrough Chase and then the King George

Just wondering if anybody has news on my favourite dashing grey

Nicky Henderson's dashing grey was unbeaten in three starts during his debut season over fences and completed his hat-trick in the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival in the spring.

The seven-year-old headed ante-post lists for the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, but is "highly unlikely" to line up at Kempton, or anywhere else over the Festive period, according to his trainer.

Henderson told Press Association Sport: "We are just going to have to put his preparation on hold for three weeks as a result of a splint on his near fore.

"He was lame earlier in the week. He is sound now, but he was sore a few days ago and we had it X-rayed to have a look at it.

"We've decided the best thing to do is give it three weeks and see where are after that.

"He'll go in the spa and hopefully he can do some swimming exercise. He was quite forward in his preparation as well.

"We'll advise on where we are in three or four weeks. For the moment all plans are on hold, which is extremely frustrating, but it's one of those things.

"It's aggravating the horse and it's aggravating me and Ronnie (Bartlett, owner) as well, but that's horses and it always seems to happen to the good ones.

"Horses get splints all the time and only one out 100 actually interfere with what you're doing. Unfortunately, this is one of those.

"Three weeks takes us to the middle of November, so you'd have to say it's going to be difficult to do anything at Christmas. It's highly unlikely."

Was from 26th October, so i'm sure we will get an upset soon.
 
I remember saying way back in about September (prior to the old boys injury) that I wouldn’t at all rule out Simonsig going for the ‘Champion Hurdle’ at the Festival as he was a horse without a fixed trip over fences and there was no obvious target for him over fences at the Festival. He’s unlikely to contest the ‘Champion Chase’ (unless something untoward happens to ‘The Black Aeroplane’) or the CGC (as according to the popular chav expression ‘he wouldn't stay the trip even in the back of Charlie Slater’s cab) and I’m firmly of the opinion that you don’t run horses this good in a race like the ‘Ryanair’ – a consolidation heat with no history, no class and no kudos.

Unlike some who have contested the latter race in recent times Simonsig still has miles of untapped potential over hurdles and if you ask any trainer or owner what they’d rather win the ‘Champion Hurdle’ or the ‘Ryanair’ every bally one would respond ‘the one over the littler obstacles, of course, dumbo!’.

If he makes it back to the track this term I really wouldn’t rule out a ‘Champion Hurdle’ tilt and could see him, if OK, running in something like the ‘Kingwell’ before possibly going to the big ‘un over hurdles.

Good point(s) SBC you make about Simonsig and the CH. It would make an already Hot, Hot contest into a Scorching Hot one. If and it's a big if, he does get declared for the CH. I may end up having palpitations with the anticipation!

But we (general public) want to see simonsig take on Sprinter Sacre....sadly for us all with a trainer like Hendo it wont happen. Bloody ridiculous all this going out of your way to keep horses apart. I hope if Hendo runs him in the Champion Hurdle (providing he makes the track), he's not involved in the finish as it will serve him right....
