on SPL standard wages?

THE Rangers FC have signed Shiels and Black recently (no idea what they are being paid - just paper talk about £7k a week for both players - combined)with a deal for Beattie in the offing.

With these players, I'm sure THE Rangers FC will romp Divisions 3 and 2 and have a good start of a squad for Div 1.

However, do you hope THE Rangers chairman has signed these guys on structured pay deals ...

Seems a dangerous strategy to me given the lack of cash in Scottish Football.

Pretty sure I've seen this before, have a higher wage bill than rest of the Division to attract high calibre playesr (for that level) - not sure if it worked out.
 
no way are shiels and beattie on 7k - 3k at best i suspct

where rangers are vulnerable is honouring the ocntracts of goin, bocanegra, wallace etc. these guys will be on decent money that is simply being thrown away on players too good for these divisions - i think we might see some movement out from those guys shortly for low (ish) fees
 
Rangers should still be able to bring in a lot of cash so paying these wages should not be a problem.

We have to bring in decent players above Div 3 level to keep the fans interested and coming back.

If we had a team of youngsters and Div 3 level players we might find it difficult to rise up, if we have a team full of SPL level players then we should win comfortably most weeks and keep the fans interest up.

I say should as anything can happen in football as we saw Brechin pushing us to the wire.
 
Black's a decent player but a thug. Shiels is ****e and Beattie will end up costing them tens of thousands in medical costs alone.
 
I think you need to take into account the players who have left, and the wages freed up by them.

Naismith, Davis, McGregor, Lafferty probably about 60-70k a week, plus the rest who have left/will probably leave will bring that above 100k a week. Then if you bring in a few players on higher wages (Black and Shiels = 14k combined) then fill out the squad with players on 2k-3k a week then they are already saving about 70k a week.

Now, when you consider the levels of sponsorship and income Rangers have, I don't believe it is unsustainable.

All those figures are obviously estimates and can't be taken as gospel, but I'd say it's relatively accurate.

Wonder what Celtics wage bill is now, with the squad of 70 players you have.

I've been hearing this pish for at least four years. Our club is run in a professional and business-like manner. We pay transfer fees and wages we can afford. It may have cost us the odd title and cup but at least we're not in the 3rd division <ok>

horrendous - hopefully we will ship out a few (we have lost a decent few in his window to be fair)

its not about saving though ML - its about actual sustainability - if you can get decent spl players (black etc.) for 3 or 4 grand a week then you dont need bocanegra etc. - its just dead cash - you should easily float up the divisions on spl players - surely its better to build gradually than keep a squad with 4 or 5 internationals in it ticking over

IF you are paying 7 grand a week for shiels then that is daft - i reckon its paper talk

I think there's a balance to be struck with experience and youth...

Fair point about leavers ... guess a lot also depends on season tickets sold (as that has a massive on the impact on a clubs finances).

In terms of Celtic, it's out there to see... wages against turnover. Celtic's finances are doing are manageable. There is some dead wood that need shipped out tho (Murphy for one) ...

Champions League Group stages (fingers crossed) would also help massivley. Without that I can see a player or two being sold.

Not no debt, but manageable debt.

To wipe it out, Celtic could sell, say, 4 players at £4m a pop. Maybe 5 players ... That includes wiping out the bank loan for Lennoxtown.

No need, when it's managed tho.

Not £15m - Closer to £12m and all credit risks are in the annual accounts - as declared at the AGM.

Not sure how it can be secret!

We've had secret public meetings between Doncaster and Lawwell in Glasgow (it was actually London) and now secret loans hidden in annual accounts!
