I was underwhelmed with this initially, but feel it's a sensible move now. Jenas and Faurlin are my first choices at central mid, but other than that who've we got? Park's gone on loan, Mbia and Granero are clearly going. Supposing Barton continues to be used on the right(or more likely ends up being transferred), that leaves us with Derry and Henry. An injury/suspension to Jenas or Ali would see our central midfield severely weakened in my opinion. Or it would have done, but now with O'neal to come in maybe things are looking a little rosier. Free transfer on a one year contract, 3 weeks knitting into the squad under his belt- this looks like a solid championship signing. Note: It does seem a little harsh on Sutherland and the like though. I suppose promotion this year is crucial, we really need players proven at championship level
The problem with this purchase is that he is another player who may be competent enough at this level but whose injury record over the last 2-3 years means surely we should be looking at bringing in younger fitter talented players. How does it make sense to fill your squad with a bunch of players who are prone to injuries and liable to be suspended? We are thin in most departments. The one thing we are not short of is experienced older players and, apparently, spirit. it's going to take a bit more than that to go up. A promise or even a hint of bit of flair or creativity in our next few acquisitions wouldn't go amiss. what's the betting it's another runeer tackler, mopper upper and side pass expert whose name is Scott Parker.

Barton's pleased with the signing... "Welcome to the club @Gazoneil Another good lad and great addition to the squad," Barton tweeted.
A good signing I think. A good pro who will give his all. I notice Harry seems to be signing alot of English, good pros. That is exactly what we need imo. However, we surely have enough central midfielders now. Desperately need wingers and strikers!
Finally confirmed, very satisfied with this one. He is a fine player, been rating him for years. Still in his prime and has always been known for his fitness, will play a lot of games for us this season meaning we'll get our money's worth. I'm convinced he'll surprise quite a lot of our fanbase. He has great vision, good passer making him a creative player to have in the middle of the park. If Barton stays I believe the two of them will form a great central midfield partnership for us.
Exclusive – Gary O’Neil: Promotion with Queens Park Rangers will beat finishing mid-table with West Ham By Anton Stanley | Wednesday, August 7, 2013 Gary O’Neil has told talkSPORT that winning promotion to the Premier League with Queens Park Rangers would beat finishing mid-table in the top flight with former club West Ham United. The ex-Portsmouth and Middlesbrough man has joined the Super Hoops on a one-year deal despite being offered a new contract at Upton Park. But he has chosen to move across London and down into the Championship instead of staying with Sam Allardyce’s side. And he reckons he won’t regret it if they manage to bounce back into the top tier of English football. O’Neil told The Sports Bar: “I think we’ve got a really good chance of getting promoted and that will be a really good and successful season. “I know it’s a season out of the Premier League but when you achieve something and you win [promotion] it’s sometimes better than that mid-table finish in the Premier League. “It’s something that I really fancied. There were a couple of other options but this one just took my fancy and it’s still in London so I haven’t got to uproot. It’s a perfect move for me.” And O’Neil admitted that joining up with his former gaffer at Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp was another reason behind moving across London. “Yeah,” he added. “Joining up again with Harry Redknapp was a factor and just the overall package at QPR.” Read more: http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...-queens-park-rangers-will-beat?#ixzz2bKEMkxDz Follow us: @talksport on Twitter Read more at http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...s-park-rangers-will-beat?#E2sptGcyRdUKypla.99
A good solid pro who will and can do a job for us at this leve.. the more i look at the team it does seem that Hoillet has been given Adels role to create and we have a solid workman like team around him..as per our promotion year with derry etc. Would be happy with another CF and Cb though. We are building for a good season though. Another creative player wouldnt go a miss either. Dont want parker TBH
just seen his interview. he seems to come across as some one who just wants to work and not just collect a pay cheque. very refreshing
Agree, apart from the loans out which I don't really get I think we've done pretty good business so far in changing the squad around. With Remy gone we still definitely need another striker soon - Connor Wickham for me.
