Yep I think De Jong is Cabaye's replacement who played mainly as a number 10 last year. It'll be a three of Tiote, Anita or Colback and De Jong. Like you say if we could get Cabella for the left and have Sissoko right, it would look good. Depth still an issue but always will be. The striker problem is still looming large, we still need one possibly two. I'd sell Cisse personally.

We need two strikers for me. Add them to Cisse & Armstrong then our pool of strikers begins to look not bad.

Ideally Lassogga (apears Hamburg bound) and Ings. Would be a good mix of raw pace with Ings and strength/aerial prowess with Lassogga.

I'm never a fan of pushing players to join against their will, I don't think it works very well. I also don't think NUFC do it very much. However, media often know nothing, so it may be he's keen enough to join but it's $$$ in the way. Hamburg and NUFC may be played against each other for the agent.

Ings is too obvious. I don't know the last time NUFC signed an 'obvious' player. McCormack's the same. We very rarely see a player have their best season, then make a move for them. We tend to pick up players based on a lower ebb. Both Siem and Luuk De Jong are good examples, taking Remy on loan with his court case looming, Papiss Cisse having a less profitably season at the time, Cabs/Debuchy, etc.

Interesting that Pardew refers to Siem as a 'sriker'.......

Apparently Siem De Jong is the replacement for SISSOKO who wants to leave and not the replacement (late in the day) for Cabaye. Its a good job that this guy is so adaptable, as it seems he may need to play in more than one position at the same time at this rate.

We dont need to sell Sissoko, but if he wants out, as so many seem to do, then the club needs to get top dollar, or get tough and stick it out and say NO!

Adaptable. Plays well as a striker and a number 10. He suits Mike's plan. Plays a number of positions well = smaller squad, buy less players. Sorted.

I'd like to keep Sissoko, but as with Debuchy, if its a CL club or top club, the money is good, it matters not what we want or the manager wants. The owner and player will see to it.

The Dutchman missed out on a place in Louis van Gaal's Netherlands squad for the World Cup but could be set to replace France international Moussa Sissoko in the North East.

Sissoko could be on the way out after a little over a year on Tyneside, with Serie A club Napoli a potential destination for the former Toulouse man.

The 24-year-old, who is part of the France squad at the World Cup and scored as Didier Deschamps's side smashed Switzerland 5-2 in their second group game, is seen as a realistic target for Rafael Benitez's team.

Goal understands that the Italian club would be willing to nearly double Sissoko's wages, while the lure of Champions League football is likely to be another factor in any potential negotiations.

With Sissoko contracted until 2019, however, Newcastle will not be forced to sell one of their prized assets on the cheap and will be looking to recuperate at least the fee that they paid to bring the Frenchman to England back in January 2013.

Not sure what the source of the above is, (some foreign football mag) but it was a related thread to an official NUFC press release on Facebook about SDJong. Could be pure speculation and lazy journalism, but its not all that unbeleivable tbh.
Plus wasnt their something a while back about Sissoko not included in some squad or other ???? with no explination.

Just seen it. It's on "goal". The piece was from yesterday afternoon, if it was reliable, I think other folk would have picked up on it. Don't reckon he's away, he's got a long time on his contract, not that it means a lot. Don't fret, pet. <ok>

I'd hope it was a LOT more than we paid. Did we not get him for around £2m???

It's probably a fabricated news story, as selling him for what we paid would certainly be letting him go on the cheap. I'd hope we'd be looking for a lot more than £1.9million!

If he is being considered as one of our two striker reinforcements and we also sign someone like Lacazette as well as another player for our Cabaye replacement then ok. Otherwise, not so good.
