Don't know about cox, but we tried to sign Wordsworth when we went back up to the champ under Powell. He went to Ipswich and fractured his vertebrae shortly after, I think.
If you listen to Robinson's pre-match, he was praising Southend to high heaven. He sounded beaten before the game started. When he said we've got to go there and try and get a win he didn't believe ti, you could tell.
1-0 Southend at half time. Aribo sounds like he's having a positive impact. Shame the rest sound poor.
Last minute goal, (whilst I don't like seeing my team lose is good), Roland will just sit there miles away saying; "they're all dancing, and having a sing song, so we're all fine with the result. I'll keep doing what I'm doing."
Hard fought draw against an in form Southend. We were crap in the first half and deservedly were behind at half time. We were much better in the second half and deserved an equaliser. Joe Aribo was the star for me, had an excellent game, hit the bar and made the equaliser. Another player for Duchatelet to sell. We have signed another midfielder which will be announced tomorrow.
A much better 2nd half today After a grisly effort in the first 45, Robinson must have reminded our players at the interval that they were playing Southend United and not Barcelona. Particularly poor today were Fox and Ajose - both rightly subbed- and Ulvestad who barely lifted a leg. Second half we got in their faces more and attacking our 1,800 fans end, showed a bit of passion for once. A massive well done in particular to Joe Aribo who hit the bar with a great piece of skill and generally turned in an all round performance that must have had Duchatelet's wallet licking its lips in anticipation. How sad that we can't get to genuinely enjoy what looks like another outstanding home grown talent. The squad is pitifully weak and 5/6 new players are more needed than ever.
Given the squad and the injuries, I expected a defeat. Okay, it was a last minute equaliser, but by the sounds of it, we deserved it, having turned the abject first 45 around. I'm still prepared to give KR a real chance - he actually seemed to make good changes, and get the most out of an injury wracked and paper thin squad. I hope we don't now start to believe Aribo will be the answer to our prayers - we have burnt out too many youngsters who were asked to do too much too son - but that sounded like a fantastic performance and he can rightly celebtrate the end of the year in style tonight. And a bit of fun for the long suffering travellers. I'm not going to witter on about corners turned or new eras, but that was as good as I dared hope for. A draw and a good recovery. Happy New Year everyone.
