No, you obviously didn't understand my point, I'm neither offended or feel excluded from the gay parade, my point was that if gay people want equal rights and acceptance in society, then why do they insist on having their own special parade to celebrate their differences, you don't see straight people having a "Heterosexual Parade" or white people having a "Caucasian Parade", my point is that if minorities want equality, they have to act equal to the rest of society
I don't see any wrong with celebrating your own culture, particularly if in the past it it was a culture that was suppressed. People used to feel forced to hide their homosexuality, now they can rejoice in it. Just as in the past a Caribbean parade (which is predominately about music and creating a carnival atmosphere than celebrating a skin colour) would have caused a riot. By the same token, I see nothing wrong with celebrating British history in the same way. And this being a free country, even extremists like the English Defence League can have their own parades. Having a parade is hardly "not acting equal to the rest of society"!
Presumably they don't fancy it, you can hardly complain about not winning the lottery, if you don't even buy a ticket.
Good points, but you have to realise that the gay community celebrate their right to be gay, by doing that they are making homosexuality a privilige to themselves, it's okay to celebrate something you believe in, like religion, but I don't think gay people would be too keen to find a load of straight men attending their parade, as it kind of contradicts the point of their parade in the first place, if gay people want to excercise their right to be gay they can do it peacefully with their partner, it's not illegal to be gay in the UK or the US, so why do they have a parade to protest against society, something like a Cannabis Parade would actually make sense, as it is illegal but people want to excercise their right to smoke it and be happy, homosexuality is not illegal, therefore there really is no point of a Gay Parade, especially when they "apparently" want equality
I guess the arguement against that would be that getting the coaching badges takes time, and what's the point if you're not going to get the opportunities? But if I wanted something badly enough, I try my damned hardest to achieve it no matter what odds I was up against. Does anyone actually know of any black ex-players that have achieved their qualifications but say they aren't been given a chance?
Gay Pride isn't a protest parade. It's a celebratory parade. It's a carnival if you like. A cultural celebration. Heterosexuals are welcome - I know a few people, particularly women, that get involved. I wouldn't personally as it's a celebration of something I am not, but I don't feel excluded. I'm an atheist - doesn't been I resent other people going to church.
I get the feeling you think I'm a homophobe, which I'm not, in fact I think discrimination of any kind is disgusting, I wish homosexuality was equal to heterosexuality as much as gay people, that's why I think they should live their lives in an equal fashion to what straight people do, and if anyone is homophobic towards them, then they should report them to the police for discrimination, discrimination won't go away unless you stick by your opinions from the start to the end
I wouldn't dream of accusing anyone of anything without proof! I actually think you're not far off from having a good point. I feel there is nothing wrong with celebrating one's own culture, but, and I'm sure you'll agree with me on this, I am against "positive discrimination". I think it was Proud that mention the Rooney rule in NFL. Surely only the best candidates should be considered for a job? Also, this only guarantees an interview - surely a racist boss, still won't give you the job? Even worst are organisations, usually public sector, that have targets for employing a certain percentage of minority groups. So again, best candidates for jobs might not get them. Is discrimination really that bad in this country that this needs to happen? The difference between my examples and yours is that positive discrimination procedures are usually initiated by white middle-class men. They don't realise it's discrimination itself to create rules that suggest that minority groups need more help than everyone else! I believe the expression is "political correctness gone mad!".
Refreshing to see a sensible discussion of an emotive issue on this board ..... but Charlie is still an annoying little turd ...bless his cottingham socks ...
with the rooney rule it would prevent me from appointing a black boss - as soon as they start to do well a bigger club will want to interview him, turning his head and destabilising the club. I cant understand how it is a good thing.
excuse the intrusion, but i can recall when homosexuality was banned in this country, i think it was while sir winston churchill was pm, in the 1950's that the wolfenden report was published and acted upon, and it was legalised in 1955 as a lifelong trade unionist i have seen the growth of gay rights, anti sexism, anti racism and now anti ageism. trade unions in this country may take a lot of credit for persuading labour governments to push through laws and rights for minority groups. even cameron and cleggy are pushing through gay marriages. so thats all right then now where was i. sorry about the history lesson, and i hope leicester get promoted. floreat salopia!
Well you accuse me of being a child even though I'm not, so that's a bit rich coming from you my friend
