Time for some substitutions methinks! Let's see what this Tomlin lad can do then. Would like to see Rooney on too...
Oh F*** Damaged goal difference and a 5 point gap opened up between us and 5th place. Not good......how bad is that defeat at D&R looking already. Only 3 attempts on goal too.
Shrewsbury haven't lost at home in the league this season, and have only conceeded six. To be honest when I saw our starting eleven, I didn't expect anything from the game.
Andrew - exactly my thoughts today on the starting eleven, has soon as I saw Oli's name in the starting eleven, I thought there was only going to be one outcome. No Keds (injury), Kuffour (injury), Rooney (bench), Tomlin (bench), S Payne (bench). Totally blame Hessy for this one and I rarely do that. Auto promotion, not good enough Hessy, tough place to go but not good enough. Edit: (just realised I echoed the words of BSG there - lol)
Not good to lose by 2 goals to nil, but we can bounce back, I think Hess made a massive mistake with Oli but I actually thought he would put in a performance, I have not been on here for the last 3 hours as I have been putting up my new bed, hell to do but now done.
I follow this ^^^ with this...http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/page/ManagersComments/0,,10416~2577272,00.html So who ffs selected Oli up front? When will we learn? Same old, same old, nothing changes. KDS comment summed it up for me on the other thread... Gillingham were very disappointing and very physical. Reminded me of Stevenage last season and Wimbledon of years gone by. Aerial challenges were always designed not to win the ball but surreptitiously prevent the opponent winning it.
ditto see the team sheet and was going to change my prediction from draw to defeat! I even considered the thought that Hessy had just marked this down as a defeat and didnt risk any players!
It's all very well blaming Hess but the players weren't up for it and didn't perform once again. Complacency? Arrogance? What is wrong with them. Always hearing about automatic promotion is doing my head in. The focus should not be on what happens come end of season but the next game. So frustrating
Hessy - knew during warm up there was a problem, so what did he do about it? I echo jayGills words, just a feeling that Hessy had this down as a defeat, not wanting to risk Keds or Kuffour. What would make me really angry is if for one moment I found Hessy left Rooney on the bench for any other reason than he seriously thought Oli was the better option. No wonder the young lad might want out when Oli gets selected ahead of him.
Oli is not an out and out striker let alone a sole frontman. Why not play 2 up top with S Payne? At least we'd have a chance of keeping the ball further forward and maybe creating something. Today's formation was 4-6-0 at best although I'm tempted to say 4-5-0. We never stood a chance. (does "a sole" sound a little to close to asshole?)
we all know hess likes players who show try...who doesn't...thats not enough though!. brb i'm with you, in no way was that team as it set up yesterday going to get a positive result!...and yes as soon as we saw dennis oli on that starting sheet "though it's easy to say now" we knew it was not going to have a positive impact on our performance or outcome in that game...points have been dropped and the gap opens up! i hate to slate players because it never helps, but oli has had chance after chance & wasted chance after chance...he just does not cut it in the league. yes he puts in effort...when fit!, but sorry that won't get us promotion or 3 points for that matter, even more so in the position he plays on the pitch... he's not the answer and never has been! harsh though it is...it's fact!!! we were short of options up top yesterday, which never helps our issue...we know that! hess got it all wrong yesterday though and knew way way before that players were not available through illness or fitness etc. hess knew what such an important game it was and though he signed two forwards before the weekend...who weren't ready to play a telling part!, he still never dealt with the matter in question...hence no available answers to help!. though what he did have, rooney, tomlin, s payne, he kept on the bench and 65mins late in introducing, thats not being positive in his thinking what he wanted from the game and that was his & our downfall!!! we set up to let them attack and we sat back and defended and hoped we would get a counter attack or two...which backfired and does not suit our play! we have the players to help when fit, in kuffour, spiller, kedwell and tomlin when settled in at club to make a telling difference in games like yesterday and it's a shame they weren't....but the telling thing is hessy got it all wrong yesterday...not just the team!!! hess you have to get an experienced coach in now to help with our problems, not southall who i see your now happy to call your first team coach...far to soon for him. also still short of a winger (jermaine mcglashan) & defender (matty fry) to take us into the auto positions...i feel! thats if we can get anyone out...who i don't know??? main thing is i don't want to see us in this division next season...end of!!! UTG!!!!!
I have done a brief write up for anyone interested... http://www.gillingham.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=269307
