Are you sure about that? I'm not really interested in a Harry Enfield-type "considerably richer than you" argument but I suspect you might have said that without seeing our accounts - and perhaps yours too. Still, nice picture. Will be about as atmospheric as Darlington's with the loyal gasheads rattling around in it (and all that money you've supposedly got pourring down the drain).
Lol, no we are also skint, but still have more than you, having bigger gates and a much bigger wage budget Our stadium will be packed for big games
And you're from what, the sixth biggest city in the U.K? It's over an hour for us to get to a city, and yet there's almost no difference in gates
We were relegated last season and played **** football, those people haven't come back yet. Used to average about 7,500-8,000 few seasons back and even they were considered poor gates. Your mobs 4,000-5,000 gates are great for a club of your size
Plastic fans? And I can't remember the last league game with a gate of less than 5,000 for us... And the population of Bristol is about 10 times as much as that of Shrewsbury, so, even if we say that the big club from Bristol, whose name rhymes with ****ty, take up most of your potential fans, you should be attracting three times as many people to your matches as we do, really.
gas are blue but in the red, overstretched, and overstaffed . please do not compare the very well off shrews, with your boracic lint tinpot club
We regularly got 7,500 fans at home games a few seasons back, there's this thing called a recession happening which has kept the less hardy fans away. Our club is not in debt, the Chairman has spent wisely, our club makes money 7 days a week from the facilities and we have made some good money recently from players and cup games. When you say bigger gates, do you mean they are taller or something?
in 1921 the gas were amongst the gasometers at eastville, i remember rovers in the good old days 1955-1965. they were a great club then. now a shadow of their former selves. but still prepared to walk the walk, in between defeats!
For a big city club their overall record is similar to small town Shrewsbury's. Best place in the second tier 6th-Shrewsbury 8th. Best performance in the FA Cup quarter final-same as Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury League Cup semi-finalists. Have Bristol Rovers ever got that far? We know that Shrewsbury are a small town club but, as the Gas are a "huge" club, their record is something to be ashamed of.
rovers beat man utd in the cup in the 1950's, shrews beat man utd pre season. the gas need a nice long cup run or would that tire out matty h. shrews will have an fa cup run and may be at home to arsenal in the third round. with all our injured players back we are unstoppable. now then will the gas beat cheltenham, their fixture list thereafter is awkward, and the last thing the gas need is the bantams, bulls, barnet and the argyle overtaking them
Yes, what was the biggest gate you ever had? 8000 You seen first hand the size of Bristol Rovers fanbase. It is right up there with the big teams. Fair enough they dont turn up regularly, but then the big sides in league one with us over the last couple of seasons didnt have a massive fan base because of the ****e footabll and ****e league they were in. Im certain, when our new stadium arrives, and if we get to the championship etc we will comfortably have a regular 15k-16k, like those dirty red neighbours of ours.
when your new stadium arrives, ah so it is mobile. sounds lika a load of redundant battery hen houses. so there will be the gasheads with little lions stamped on their arms, alongside the rhode island reds, leghorns, susseex whites and of course your turkeyson the pitch. bring on dunfords dairies and you will have a farmers market. wow there will be some omelettes at your new second hand mobile gaff. do hope irene can put up with the poultry droppings and the paltry play on the pitch
"Fair enough they don't turn up regularly". Masterful understatement Chris - a career awaits you as PR adviser to George Osborne ("fair enough the economy's not performing as well as it used to"). There were 40,000 watching Bristol 2nds, but just for the one day trip. Only the 5,000 masochists left now, watching a team play on a rugby pitch. Massive club ..... PS Biggest gate we ever had was much higher, at Gay Meadow. You're only looking at the new stadium (and anyway it was more like 9,000).
That answer still does not address the fact of your vast under-achievement for a "big city club". It still only matches Shrewsbury's achievements AND we gave you 30 years start!!!!!
