I know Glory doesn't need anyone's support, but I'm giving it anyway... The question, and the title of this thread, is "Should you be given a job because of the colour of your skin?" So far, everyone including Glory has said "no". So nobody here is asking for people to be given jobs based on the colour of their skin. Having read the BBC article, Taylor isn't asking for that either. I read it twice in case I missed something, but nowhere does it say he wants anyone to be given a job because of the colour of their skin. What he's asking for is the Rooney Rule. I've pasted this from the article... "The 'Rooney Rule' was established in 2003 and named after Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the chairman of the NFL's diversity committee. It requires NFL teams to interview at least one black or ethnic minority candidate for head coaching and senior football operation opportunities that become available, as part of a transparent and open recruitment process." All it's doing is giving ethnic minorities a chance to sit in front of the interview panel. OK, so what happens once everyone has been interviewed? As Glory also said, a job should go to the best person for the job, regardless of the colour of their skin. So if the black/Asian/oriental/Arab person isn't good enough, they shouldn't get it just because of the colour of their skin. Fair enough. Nobody's saying they should. But let's turn it around... What if that person is the best person for the job? Should he be turned down because of the colour of his skin?
Well since everyone wanting to be a manager has to have the F A Qualifications it then comes down to the owners choice, which is what it is anyway.Just more red tape,PC crap that we dont need.
The thing is once every employer has interviewed the 'token Black guy' and chose the best person for the job(a white bloke) that leaves them open to being prejudiced as soon the 'stats' will say of 100 Black guys being interviewed only 3%(or less) got offered the job.
Guaranteed interview at my place if you’re disabled, but doesn’t mean you’re going to get the job if you’re not up to scratch. While I can agree with many points on this thread I think we are blurring the message slightly. And of course no one should get a job on something as superficial as skin colour and I doubt anyone in a senior position would turn down a better prospective employee just to be seen as a multi ethnic employer, there’s too much to lose, especially in the multi million pound sports industry. Now hopefully that’s all I’ll say on this thread as I don’t want to be drawn into a debate about ethics/racism or its place in this day and age, and yes as Shaks pointed out it does work both ways and hopefully the tide will turn and we will all be judged on our actions rather than colour as it always should be, sadly there are always exceptions to this for and against any race.
Lets be honest here, this country is the most un-racist fair country in the world I work with Polish,Bulgarians,West Indians the lot all given jobs while there's lots of Brits unemployed.Go abroad as a Brit and try and get work in their countries if you want to see racism.Every council in England should be prosecuted, why ? because British who may have been on council house waiting lists for years are pushed to one side to give houses to Afgans,Poles the lot.So should there be a law saying you have to interview a Black person, well if so it should be brought in the same day as all the Black only groups have to do the same, and all the Gay groups have to interview Straight people.
I would be willing to bet that it's a guaranteed interview for the disabled person meets all the essential criteria for the role advertised and this is proven on the application form.
Maybe African National sides should be contacted by Taylor and asked to explain why they employ so many non African managers........ are the African Federation National Associations racist ?
