Should Wenger go at the end of the Season?

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Arsenal87, Jan 15, 2012.

  1. That was my fear too friend.

If we get rid of this board and bring on Mr U then anything's possible. I have never seen Mr Gazidis wear an Arsenal scarf. To tell you the truth I cannot bear looking at him so he may have but it wouldn't surprise me if Mr U as a declared fan, would wear his.

Guus Hiddinck -- quite possibly. I doubt he would tolerate the crazy nonsense that we've had for years.

I cannot agree on just anyone. This is the most important change since Wenger came to us - it had better be right.

Kroenke will not leave the club because he practically owns it and the guy is a long time investor. He said it already that one should not expect Arsenal to always challenge for the titles, and that there are times when your ambitions should be lowered. He is convinced Wenger is the best man for the job, if you read his interviews you know that Kroenke really adores him. The board, even if they would want to fire Wenger , could not possibly do it without Kroenke approval. ( They clearly have no guts and no desire whatsoever to fire Arsene, so this is irrelevant.) Regarding Arsene the board decides NOTHING. Fans decide even less. So, one has to be completely deluded to think that Wenger's time is running out. Wenger is here to stay until his current contract expires at least. And then - guess what - he will be offered a new one. You can bet your house on it. This is the reality. So, do not be deluded, just leave with it. And support your club if you can. If not - go support Spuds, they are challenging for the title.

    The Spuds certainly show ambition.

EmirAleks - why don't you go and support the Spuds ? I mean .. for years they have been happy with doing F'all and it looks as though you are happy that we are doing F'all.

The suggestion that we can't do something about this is nonsense, 60,000 Arsenal fans have a very loud voice and the board WILL take note of our complaints if we take it to that level. Do you think Kroenke and co want us to do a Blackburn and protest week in week out ? Do you think our corporate image will not get tarnished by scenes of anguish and anger ? What of the corporate image of our sponsors when beamed across the world 1000s of Arsenal fans wearing tops with Emirates tops are marching, chanting and being angry ? Not all exposure is good exposure.

I think the board should go over to S'Land and BEG M'ON to sign a contract because with Arsenal's resources he'd be successful
Wenger can become finance manager/youth coach

When he was at Villa he spent more than us but never got in to the champions league.

  9. Going back to the discussion on Rafa started by lCooper2010 I am reminded that Rafa was frequently criticised for inexplicable tactical decisions. Arsene's unfathomable substitution today ( and the manner by which he defended it ) reminds me of Rafa at his ' tactical best '. It scares me.

I'm undecided on Rafa, on one hand he is a good manager who would command respect in the dressing room and would demand more tactical discipline from our players. On the other his transfers are pretty hit and miss and if/when we drop out of the top 4 i'm not sure he could build a team that would get us back in to it.

Top managers would queue outside the Emirates if Wenger resigned.

No shortage of applicants - I assure you.

    Martin O'Neill for me.
I don't think Pep Guardiola would be interested. He's going to Manure (probably/maybe)!

Has martin O'Neill ever won a trophy or finished in the top 4? I know the teams he has managed have spent considerably more than Arsenal, while he was there.

With a worse record from a higher investment, why do you think he would be an improvement over Wenger?

He would be an improvement as far as man management and motivation goes,
Look at the impact he's had already at Sunderland. He could do the same for us.
He has a proven record at clubs (Leicester, Celtic) that don't have the resources that we have.

    But he's not available anymore.

  15. MON has done quite a great deal Mr Toledo

    Wycombe Wanderers

Became manager of Wycombe in February 1990. In the 1990-91 season, he took Wycombe to 5th in the Football Conference. In the 1991-92 season he led Wycombe to 2nd place in the Conference, losing out to Colchester United only on goal difference. The following season, he took Wycombe into the Football League for the very first time. In the 1993–94 season, he took Wycombe to a second successive promotion via the Division 3 playoffs and a 4–2 win over Preston North End took them up into Division 2.[4] In the 1994-95 season, Wycombe narrowly missed out on the Division 2 playoffs and he left the club on 13 June 1995 to become manager at Norwich City. O'Neill also won the FA Trophy with Wycombe in 1991 and 1993.

    Leicester City

Joined Leicester City immediately after leaving Norwich. They won the Football League Cup under O'Neill in 1997 and 2000, as well as reaching the 1999 final of the competition. They finished ninth in 1997, tenth in 1998 and 1999, and eighth in 2000. The two League Cup triumphs saw them qualify for the UEFA Cup each time.

    Celtic

Left Leicester on 1 June 2000, taking over from the team of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish to become manager of Celtic

In that first season, O'Neill was the first Celtic manager to take the team into the revamped Champions League (a feat he managed three times). He guided Celtic to the 2003 UEFA Cup Final in Seville, which Celtic lost 3–2 in extra time, to a Porto side coached by José Mourinho. In his five seasons at Celtic Park, O'Neill won three League titles, three Scottish Cups, and a League Cup. He also oversaw a record 7 consecutive victories in Old Firm derbies, and in season 2003–04 Celtic created a British record of 25 consecutive league victories.

On 25 May 2005, Celtic announced that O'Neill was resigning as manager at the end of the 2004–05 season to care for his wife Geraldine, who had lymphoma. His last competitive game in charge of Celtic was the Scottish Cup final 1–0 victory over Dundee United on 28 May 2005, decided by an eleventh minute goal by Alan Thompson. Celtic's record under O'Neill, was winning 213, drawing 29 and losing 40, of 282 games played.

OK no EPL titles yet but I doubt if anyone can say it is not an impressive managerial record.
