Simple answer to the question: Yes, the guy I think has taken us as far as he could. It's like flogging a dead donkey now! As someone said if he was honourable, he would do the decent thing, but I doubt he will, him and the Board are a match, made for each other...... I just wonder how long he can use his previous credits/goodwill for? My heart sank, when he came up with the same rubbish during this transfer window, something like he does not intend to any business this transfer window, January buys are self serving....... he must think we are fools!
For me no, but he does need to recognise that the blind faith he shows in below par footballers has to change. I actually think yesterdays loss is a blessing in disguise, our mini slump has happened at a time when we can still act in the transfer window, 2/3 weeks later and we would have been stuck. What our current form should tell Wenger is that not only are we potentially going to struggle against the top sides but we've also got the ability to lose/drop points against those in the relegation mire (can't include Swansea in that they were outstanding yesterday). I have to say watching Kos defend yesterday reminded me of a very young Tony Adams and I know he's been excellent recently, he just looked out of sorts all day....
What really bothers me is this blind foray into the 6 yard box by our defenders. they must be so frustrated that they abandon any defensive shape. Mert goes up all the time for corners, free-kicks but doesn't contribute - takes ages to get back. Even Kos does it now. At least Verm can deliver value. Song sometimes loses his head and charges forward before losing the ball and leaves a gap behind. Our midfield is wide open, and the defenders don't understand marking. End result? Breakaway goals. Week after week, year after year.
Definately no sacking of Wenger unless a suitable replacement is brought in. The big problem is who? Yes i agree, Wenger is stubborn, makes mistakes and hasn't won anything for 7 years. But one thing we have to admit and that he is a class manager. If we can force him to alter his stance a bit, then that would be a massive help.
Four full backs out, our best CB out our 2 best Midfielders out....!! Come on people, judge the team not out of position youngsters. Our full side or something like it, is much better than the team we are currently having to put up with, and results would be different.
Yes but it always seems to be like this and as a result of which we go backwards. Surely it's time to do something about it but then after all the prevaricating we come to a run of easy fixtures and our management think all is well.....
Yeah, I imagine what will happen if Wenger goes. "Arsenal Football Club is looking for a top world class manager able to fight for trophies and bring money to the club on transfers". Anyone? No? OK, maybe, not exactly world class?? No?
the club would be inundated with applications. Apart from SAF, AVB -virtually all the PL managers would put their hat in the ring. Then DOZENS of European guys would apply, too. The sift would take weeks.
Haha fair enough, was just trying to think of who could replace wenger that might actually do alright for you, what about Benitez or Moyes?
I actually think Benitez is a good manager and wouldn't have been complaining if we had appointed him before avb, he won the cl with quite a poor liverpool team. Only other person i could think of that might be free to manage Arsenal would be Pep Guairdola - Yes/No?
As Gary Neville said on tv - Man U were without 7 players ... so we are not the only team with problems, the fact is our squad is ****.
1) WE don't need to spend £30m on one player !!! 2) Tottenham seem to be able to buy players fit for purpose within their wage structure, so why can't we ?
What??? Raffa???? No way. No way at all. I always felt Raffa belonged at Liverpool. Usually made it an easy game for us David Moyes is OK. I think he has coped well on a pauper's budget. My choices - Guus Hiddinck and Martin O'Neill. In a way O'Neill a tad more because I think he will enthuse the players and fans. IMHO I think Pep would be a very popular choice.
Problem is though Hiddink is getting on a bit which is the reason i don't think we hired him ( i know we have a track record of sacking them quick anyway but i think we were looking for long-term ) his 64 i think now and getting on a bit, Moyes you don't know how he'd cope at a big club with big stars, Pep would be the best choice for you in my opinion, i know his inherited most of the team but by the job his been doing his obviouly a great manager and it was proved again the other night ( 1-0 down vs madrid and winning 2-1 hence outmastering Mourinho ). Only thing is though could you provide him with the resources he might want? e.g. money etc
