and take any players from the relegated clubs Blackburn and Wolves? I've seen people saying Matt Jarvis or Scott Dann for example.

Shouldn't we be aiming our sights higher. These players weren't good enough to keep their current clubs up so why would they do any better with us?

I think they have a few really good individual players and, just because the team wasn't good enough to stay up this season, doesn't mean that players like Jarvis, Kightly, Dann etc aren't good enough.

I'd be delighted if we signed any of those mentioned, personally.
 
We should if the player is right for our team. After all there isnt a limitless supply of Premiership quality players out there, and where else would we get them from? Apart from growing them in the Staplewood laboratories ofc :p
 
Weve got to be realistic. To get quality players you have to pay huge wages which we dont really want to do so much. Else you can get players from lower leagues (relegated clubs or just championship players etc.) or abroad. Going is abroad is best value for money but more of a gamble. I think we should go for a mixture of quality overseas players. Some prem experience and the rest promising hungry players from lower leagues. Norwhich have shown that the starting 11 need not be all prem regulars.
 
I don't really sign up to "they were relegated so can't be good enough". I'm sure a few players from both sides will move back to the Premiership, I don't know much about their players though so not sure whether they will be a good fit for Saints. Neither seem to have big financial problems or players on huge wages so I think they will keep large parts of their squad together.
 
I think we are 80% there already, we need to strengthen the squad and the right wing is the priority, but also any player from the premiership would have to fit the wage bill. I would like 3-4 quality additions from the championship and give the existing team at least half a season to cut thier teeth. I do not think the likes of Danns would take a 50% wage cut to come here- Stoke and Sunderland will match thier money

When we went down in 2005 and our players moved on, some of them have done really well for their teams, so I would welcome Jarvis or Dann
 
I would love Jarvis or Hoilett, but they'd be the only two who I'd "love". Dann, Fletcher, Robinson and Pedersen are all good players, who I wouldn't mind signing, but I wouldn't be shouting from the roof top were we to sign them. And I honestly don't see a single Bolton player really worth going for. Eagles as a squad player, if I had to pick one.

I too don't buy the "they got relegated, so they must be rubbish" line, but I am wary about signing players who have spent the previous 12 months losing matches on a regular basis. They're unlikely to be in a good place mentally. We showed first hand at the start of the season what can be done with a group of players who are confident and positive and on the up. So I am wary about signing players who maybe aren't in that frame of mind right now. Potentially, I'd prefer to stick with what we've got if it's a straight fight between the two.
 
The squad will be built gradually, by "evolution, not revolution"...the aim next season must be consolidation along the lines of Norwich and Swansea. I can't see us spending as much as Stoke have this last season, they have a build up of several season's Sky money behind them. For us to match their wage bill it will mean the club overspending on a scale that isn't feasible, yet. I'm not against us buying the best of players OUTSIDE of the Premier League, Jordan Rhodes must be worth a gamble and Jay Rodriguez is a player I have admired for a while. Grant Holt and Danny Graham have done ok this season and are probably on a fraction of what Peter Crouch and Kenwyne Jones earn.
 
I'm quite suprised that no-one has mentioned Nzonzi.

Classy little player. Although I guess he does play in a similar role to morgan. They are both young and French as well...
 
If the money's there we should be looking to try and sign a couple of experienced prem players rather than champ players imo
 
One problem with Premier League players on the way down is that they will expect high wages. I'd rather take someone on the way up if the quality of player is the same.
 
Just because a player gets relegated doesn't mean he is a poor player. of more importance to me is that whichever player comes in they should fit in with the squad - no big time charlies, but players with the right work ethic who are willing to play to earn their place in the starting 11. We need players who want to be on our bus.
 
Players from the Championship could well be a lot hungrier than current Premier League squad players, same goes for good L1 players. And players from relegated teams may well have a point to prove.

Agree Chris Burke is a good player, if Birmingham don't go up, with their financial concerns - they may have to sell
 
I think any of the clubs that go down will have to sell but with a couple of exeptions I'm pretty sure we can get better from elsewhere.

Premiership-Regulars: expect a high wage, why would their current team let them leave unless they were dispensable? Do you really want to go down the QPR road? Mercenaries do not hang around in the event of relegation or really care much about the club except for their £££ salary.
E.g Wright-Phillips, DJ Campbell

Relegation Teams: are you mad, why wouldn't you want Hoillet/Jarvis, not their fault their team-mates were utter-garbage with a serious lack-of-effing-talent, that their team got relegated. Speaking as a Norwich fan and having seen the former in action, where do I sign? YES PLEASE!

Championship High-Fliers: £4m max. worth, Graham was £3.5m and done brilliantly.
E.g Snodgrass

League 1 High-Fliers: young, ambitious, bags-of-potential players are worth £2-5m, worth tapping into this market as it has been proven successful by Norwich and Swansea
