To be honest, I don't think that we will have a season with the sort of results that we had against the rest of the top 7 this season again, we weren't lucky per se. but it was a bit of a fluke. What we need to do (as I think Dembele has said today) is improve our results against teams lower down the pecking order, IF we can do that we have a good chance of qualifying for Europe again by the end of next season.
I'm going to say that we'll struggle to finish even 5th next season, if our board doesn't get in the right players this Summer. I don't think it will be so much the likes of 'Pool getting any better, more a case of us sinking to their level.
Nothing to say about the rest now? Come on Piskie, if you're going to come on our board and try to tell us how desperate things look for us, at least have the decency to respond properly when you get a reply. Your record for saying what you "think" about Spurs on this board is always negative and rarely correct. No Spurs fans have been arrested for anti-semitic chanting, there was no mass exodus after missing out on CL football last summer, Levy hasn't sold Bale to pay for our stadium and we beat you at WHL. There's probably plenty of others, if only I'd kept digging up the threads every couple of days to laugh at what you said, eh? You're welcome here but given the stuff you come out with it's not exactly like you're giving the reasonable, balanced opinions you try to give the impression of.
Wow - Chip on your shoulder I see. But I didn't say things look desperate for you, they are your words. I said that I think you missed your chance to finish above us this season and that as Arsenal will likely strengthen in the summer, Spurs may not get as good a chance again. But we'll wait and see what the summer brings. No need to get on your high horse about it
I would suggest that next season currently looks fascinating, I certainly don’t think you should be settling for 5th before a ball has been kicked or any signings made. The top 3 will all have new managers, all will expect to hit the ground running, but thats not guaranteed, they will all sign new players and we are assured that Arsenal will spend big (or is that just déjà vu)! But new signings don’t always make an immediate impact and can unsettle other members of the squad. Retaining Bale is obviously first priority for Spurs, having Kaboul and Sandro back would improve the matchday squad enormously, and Holtby and Siggurdson should be more settled both I think have alot to offer, you also have Townsend coming back from a good loan spell which will hopefully have proved both that he can be useful squad player too, so In my opinion that leaves you needing a left back and a striker, and it may just be that by making fewer changes and additions you are actually better prepared for the start of the new season than those who are integrating new players and managers.
I seem to remember his main prediction was that you would not finish above us this season, he got that right.
If rumours are to be believed, apparently from next season the EL winners will get automatic entry into the CL. May change the focus somewhat - and will certainly increase the status of the EL generally. We gave it a good shot this season, but I can see it becoming an even bigger focus for us if this news is correct.
fingers crossed then,if it happens it will remove the stigma of Thursday night on ITV4,and hopefully become something the fans like as much as the C/L
It would be not before time, if true. It would certainly make the competition more attractive. However, if this is going to be the case, surely they must end the practice of allowing C.L. failures a back door entry into the E.L.
With our luck we will finish third and then get displaced from the CL by City winning the CL and Swansea winning the EL
I've long said this should be the case. Think of clubs like Wigan and Swansea who are going to be in the EL next season. If winning the EL gets you a CL place, teams like that would really go all out for the EL. It would make the tournament far better. A CL place for a club like Swansea would be like one of us winning the lottery.
If the rules do change then I would seriously have a punt on that happening to Spurs in the first five years or so. No bookie would be negative enough to give me odds that weren't worth it. (That's if I lived somewhere where gambling wasn't illegal, of course)
Not only would we be that unlucky, but it'd probably be a disputed penalty in the 94th minute against someone like Hull that means we miss out on 2nd by a point.
