I think if a more popular manager had headbutted Myler and sworn at Pellegrini then most fans would have been a lot more supportive. We do have a habit of seeing things according to our predefined notions of people.
He had a bust up with Wenger too, if I recall. "Are you on a negative strand here?" To the journalist No "plenty a positives to be sure!"
I don't think you can call a season a fluke. You can fluke games but you can't fluke a season. We were genuinely the 5th best team that year and played some good football. You have to give Pardew the praise he deserves for that. A lot, but not all, of it was down to his management. He also has to take his share of blame for some of the subsequent drop in form. However, his life wasn't made easy when he wasn't allowed to strengthen the squad for a European campaign - a campaign we still managed to get to the quarter finals of, and but for Ben Arfa shooting from a tight angle late on instead of crossing it could have even been the semis. Pardew didn't do that bad for us, especially compared to where we are now. He did have flaws though. He wasn't great at coping with setbacks and when things went wrong we did go on some awful runs before he turned things round. A lot of the negativity he had to cope with did stem from the fans. He operated within the limits of Ashley's model and didn't openly speak out against it and we held that against him. He wasn't alone in that. Every manager bar Rafa has done the same. We (as a group) tend to hate the ones who don't speak out and love Rafa, despite some other managers having similar records on paper and some playing more attractive football. I don't see Pardew as the solution to our problems. He has form for doing less well the longer he is in a job. He was nowhere near as bad as a lot of our fans made out though.
Pardew. The man who at his last English team gave them such a lift that they lost their first 9 games under his managerial stewardship. Yes, he’s definitely the man we need.
It was West ****in' Brom Palace were near the relegation zone when he took over. They finished 10th and we finished 15th After being 10th while he was still our manager First prem manager to win two manager of the year awards, who wasnt Sir Alex. First prem manager to keep two teams up in one season Not good enough for us tho cos he said nasty things to some chilean fella with a perm
And our current team is so much better than West Brom under Pards? In honesty not for me because I don’t think he would have the desired effect. Okay with a good team but not with a poor team and, with who we have available, we are a poor team.
Gotta say looking at our squad, its a who's who of domestic and foreign cloggers. So whether its Pardew, Rafa, Bruce, or Pep, none of them are going to pull up any trees. Personally think the likes of Gillespie, Hendrick, Lascelles, Darlow, Carroll, Shelvey, Hayden, Dummett, Clark, Ritchie, Gayle, Murphy, Lewis are all bang average or worse. Maybe a little harsh on Clark. Then we have Muto, Atsu, Joelinton, Krafth, Saivet who are all foreign cloggers. Jury is out on Fraser, M Longstaff, S Longstaff Wilson, Fernandez, ASM, Almiron, Schar, Lejeunes, Dubravka, Manquillo, Woodman - I rate all these. We are **** and looking above, regardless of budgets/the Ashley excuse, the managers/scouting over the recent times has been garbage. Its no better than the latter part of Graham Carr's reign which was widely condemned.
They were rock bottom before he went there tho Ability of some of our lot to leave out extremely vital bits of information is staggering. Acting like West Brom were riding high in 8th before Pardew turned up
Ummmm.... I dunno. Pardew was in charge of Palace for the whole of 2016,when they had the worst results record of any of the 92 league clubs. I don't think even Bruce has ever had that honour.
Other end of the stick!! West Brom were in trouble. Had just sacked manager. Pardew brought in. West Brom we’re 17th in the League at that time. Getting the drift? Pardew lost 9 games in a row and was dismissed on the 2/4/2018 with West Brom bottom. West Brom eventually relegated in 20th position. Any relevant info missing now? Pardew the great saviour.
Jesus ****ing Christ. If anyone thinks pardew is an option, just give up. Literally speaking there’s zero point in following Newcastle united if you somehow think Alan pardew is an acceptable option. That’s like saying you haven’t had sex in 14 years, so I think I’ll let this donkey shove its cock up my arse.
I'd take him right now if I was given the chance to finally get rid of Bruce Pardew might keep us up he does have a history of having immediate positive impact
