Meat is lo longer a prerequisite in the Western diet. Meat is eaten today because it tastes good to those who indulge. There was a time when meat was needed to give us our daily iron intake. But that intake can now be taken in a host of other ways. If memory serves, a single serve of most breakfast cereals gives us a third of our iron needs. Meat of course is big business, as is the racing game. So If people want to punt or eat meat, there will always be those who will supply the market.
Coming back to the point though I don't think they'll ever ban horse racing, the betting industry is huge and generates a lot of money, shame though because it causes more harm than it helps. And you're right, behind the scenes is probably worse than anything you'll ever see on telly, but the horses that make it through get a decent retirement at least...
As a supposed nation of animal lovers, we allways get upset, when on national tv, an animal loses its life. We let our cat out, she loved playing outside, guess what happened? Yes, she got ran over & died, did we cry? Yes we ****ing did. Was it our fault that we let her out? No Horses love doing what they do, running. Horses die in the wild, running. deaths with animals occur naturally everday, is there an outcry ?. No Either slaughter every animal on the planet, or just stop with the ****ing whinging.
