It was only right at the end when we played terribly. There were many games like the one against Leeds at the KC where we played fantastic football.
I'd like Bruce to succeed, I really would and still hope that getting Jake, Maloney, Diomande and Sondgrass up and running in addition to Diame firing away, will provide the impetus we currently appear to be lacking on the field. Either way I can't see him hanging on past December if we're not comfortably in the top five. Thing is then, who will be either available or willing to come in?
We have an attacking mentality at the KC and go out to attack teams from kick-off but we don’t seem to be able to do that away from home. Hopefully we can start doing that from tonight (at Cardiff). - Elmohamady Maybe it's not that Bruce is setting City up to be ultra defensive away from home. The players are going into their shells perhaps and not carrying out what the coaching staff are trying to get them to do. In the end obviously it's Bruce's responsibility to get them to perform.
The problem with management is that far too many people think it is a natural characteristic, and there is nothing to learn about it. They think becoming a manager is like becoming a parent; just rely on instinct. Well some of us know to our horror just how wrong bad parents can be; and the same goes for managers who think all they need do is be assertive. I'd like a poll on here ... just how many of us have had useless managers? One thing a good manager needs is wisdom. And a wise manager knows when he has taken on too much, when he has met his "ceiling". All of us have limits. But what's more, our abilities are not constant. We improve until we reach our best, and then we go into decline. The wise manager recognizes this. If in decline we foolishly persist, thinking our abilities will return, we are asking for trouble, and my view is that it is best to withdraw when we peak. Since the beginning of written history people have ridiculed those who aspire to more than they are capable of. Steve Bruce has shown his worth and can be proud of his achievements, but I'm afraid he is no longer the man to keep Hull City in the Premier League, and I doubt as things stand with AA that Bruce can even get City back into the Premier League. So from where I am sitting, it is a question of either managerial renewal (AA, EA and SB to go), or Hull City will decline just like Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn.
Maybe, but a large part is also that everyone thinks they know better. Steve Bruce is almost universally liked and respected by other managers and players in World football, however, on here everyone (it seems) thinks they can do better. Strangely, none of them agree with each other about what's to be done. "Meyler is our best player", "Meyler is ****" they all rant. And this applies to almost all our players. They cannot agree on who our "next manager" should be. We get almost as many suggestions as we have members. Everybody says "we should sign so-and-so" whether he is available or not, only to be greeted by a chorus of "He's ****" from all the others. If everyone on here was sacked when things go wrong where they work , half as often as they call for a managers sacking, they'd all be unemployed. Some perspective is required. The job is not as easy as FIFA 14 would have you believe, and for sure we would struggle more to get players without Steve Bruce. The time has come to let him do his job and support the team (including him). All my opinion of course, but still one held by the majority of fans I think.
Like sacking a manager and expecting improvement when only 2 out of about 40 City managers have got us into the top division.
If we'd sacked him before Christmas and employed Pulis, we wouldn't need anyone to get us into the top division, we'd already be there.
I agree with this TT. I like Bruce and think he is the right Manager to get us promoted again - he has the past experience and a far better squad than last time he achieved this feat for us. If he had been sacked at the end of last season I don't think anyone could have reasonably objected - after all, he had failed in his number one task of keeping us up. However, I am pleased that the Allams kept him on as I think there is far too much of an "instant results" mentality in football today. We are in a new League and we have had many changes of personnel, largely as a result of getting relegated and having to live within our means. But, we have had a good start - not a great start, I agree - and I think Bruce should be given time to find our best formation for what is a marathon, not a sprint. To me, the end of December is a reasonable time to take stock of where we are and how well he is achieving.
That's pure speculation - and totally irrelevant to the current situation. IF the Allams had sacked Bruce and IF Pulis had been offered the job and IF he'd agreed to take up the package that MAY have been offered we MIGHT have stayed up. IF I'd picked the right number son the Lottery last week I'd be a millionaire! Let's stick to facts and not pure hypothetical speculation!
Everything's speculation, there's certainly no guarantee that Bruce will get us promoted just because he did once before, which is the point I was responding to.
I'd love to see Nigel Adkins at City, yes he's a former Scunny, but he knows how to attack and seems to know the game better than Brucie!
Bruce is now 'Coasting' as a Manager , doing what's needed to be done and saying what's needed to be said , but with little or no commitment and enthusiasm Its now a waiting game until others and the powers above see this and act accordingly
I'd like nothing more than for Bruce to succeed and get us back up, because he really does seem a genuine bloke. He cannot be all that bad at his job to have the reputation he has in the game....I couldn't see Wenger loaning out his players to just anybody for example. However, there are ominous signs that the desire and urgency aren't there on the pitch, that selection and tactics seem to be plucked out of a hat, and that we are not seeing anything like the quality of performance that we should be from the players we've got. Last year I was willing to suck up the bad luck story of injuries because I believe they probably did cost us more than 3 points over the course of the season. This year, Bruce has had a really tough summer, but the bottom line is he has got a top 2 squad for this league- he needs to pull them together and get a focused, determined team on the pitch....at the moment there are too many looking like they are going through the motions.
How many times does this need to said. Bruce has brought every single player on show tonight to the club in one way or another,it's his team. As much as I detest the old git, old camel toe has backed Bruce financially and Bruce has gone and spunked the lot on second rate flops all over the park. Our league record over the last 12-16 months is appalling and most other clubs would have cut thier losses and sacked Bruce the moment our fate was sealed when we left the Premier league. Bruce still has a lot to answer for in many fans minds, only a quick return to the top flight would suffice and right now that already is starting to look a real challenge. Allam Out.
I support the club. If the manager is hindering the club's progress then he should go. To be honest, I'm surprised he's lasted this long.
