People who are not eligible for JSA(C) may claim Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, JSA(IB), which is means tested for each individual claimant and/or their dependents. People who are eligible for JSA(C) may also claim JSA(IB) for any additional payments due under that benefit (for family dependents, for example). JSA(IB) is payable only if the claimant has less than £16,000 in savings (correct as of July 2006). Payments are reduced when the person has savings between £6,000 and £16,000.

Two things here Tash, Firstly just dont declare your savings and secondly you still need to make a claim. If you declare your savings and they say you are not entitled to anything, they will still contribute towards your NI stamps

As others have said, if you're actively looking for a job after the Government laid you off, then get it. Call it compensation. Tories are ****s.

f*ck that Tash son, don't declare your savings and take what is rightfully yours.

You work hard and pay tax and that oney should be there when you need it.

Good luck with the job hunting - make sure you get what is yours!

Maybe get a PS3 (if you don't have one) with your savings to pass the time over the coming weeks!

Plenty of people in your situation, and most of them with no money at all, so no, don't!

If you have savings then it effects potential JSA claims so you might be wasting your time anyway.

If you feel bad about it then do some volunteering work at the same time as looking for a job.

You feel better as you're doing something and the local community improves through your commitment.

You need to register either way, as AG said you loose your National Insurance credits which may affect pension etc in years to come.

    Agree!

Or even go travelling...It'll help you with your applications (shows you have the sense to organise things etc.) and also provide you with an epic time...I heard South America is the place to be, met a couple of lads in Thailand who said the Argentinian women are hands down the best in the world (and they'd been everywhere!)

Go there, get a tan, get a ride and come back a better man!

Most people on JSA aren't scroungers. Take the cash, if you feel bad about it, give it to the Japan charity, or that bloke on here going to Uganda.
