United under Ferguson He was famously one game away from being sacked in 1989, after three and a bit years coincidentally, the same stage as Redknapp is at right now.
According to Martin Edwards, that's always been a myth - but then again, winning the FA Cup probably gave him some job security long enough for Rupert Murdoch to buy his 9.9% stake in the club...
Give him one more year, then get Guardiola after he's had his break from football. Back in the real world... I don't like Harry much, but neither do I want us to take a gamble on a young unproven manager (Rodgers, Lambert, Martinez, etc) at this time. I wouldn't mind seeing David Moyes at Spurs, but I think he will end up at ManU. It's hard to think of many other options who would be available and aren't too big of a gamble. Anyway, I can't see Levy sacking him if we finish 3rd or 4th. If 5th though...well Levy has previous form with managers who finish 5th two seasons in a row...
With Ferguson saying he's likely to leave in 2 years (I know, he has been saying that for 10 years), I think Moyes will stick with Everton until then. Levy will 100% not sack Redknapp, unless we find ourselves in the relegation zone at Christmas. He may easily not offer him a new contract though if the likes of Hiddink, Van Gaal or Ancelotti is available... The issue with this is will Redknapp perform similarly next year when he has an expiring contract as he did over the last few months..?
The trouble is, whoever is here next season we need to make a lot of signings in the summer. We need two strikers (I doubt Adebayor will stay, and Defoe isn't happy), a goalkeeper (Friedel is really showing his age lately), a replacement for Modric (who I think will go this time regardless of where we finish), and proper cover for Lennon. That's the minimum. Hopefully Caulker and Naughton can save us further expenditure in defence. So if he's going to keep Harry he has to back him fully or we'll just go backwards.
This is key. We need a top class coach and possible (no definitely) a defensive coordinator to maximise what we have. The old boys network can only get us so far. Harry to stay.
Spurs have been playing a delicate game, getting top players to want to come here and stay for success, quality football and a good experience, despite the fact they could probably make more elsewhere. Redknapp's been at the center of that, along with Levy. Can't see getting rid of either one. Of course, if the right manager comes calling, who looks like he could be even better, I can't see how Redknapp has earned much loyalty, either.
Of course, it'll about what Levy and the board decide. I'm sure they have serious doubts. So do I. After all these Years, I just want to see Spurs winning trophies again. Serious ones, that is. If that happens, then personally, I couldn't care less who the manager is.
Of all the coaches mentioned it's Slaven Bilic who appeals the most to me. He actually wants to come here. If Harry fails to get us CL after being so far ahead then he should go but if he does get us CL then he made too much hard work of it,allowed himself to be badly distracted, had a court case and should still be replaced.
Not so sure why Harry having a court case should go against him, when he had the same court case when he was first appointed !!!!
When he was appointed we were desperate for anybody to get us out of the mess we were in. I didn't know that he was under suspicion that long ago actually Original but as I said before....mud sticks. I would also prefer a coach who has had no previous suspicions.
We all know that nothing is ever Harry's fault. Presumably, like all of his type, he surrounds himself with people who are only going to tell him what he wants to hear. Not exactly conducive to further progress.
What do you mean 'mud sticks' ?? The man was cleared unanimously by a jury !! For your information, it was in the public domain before his appointment that he would be facing charges. Levy took him on knowing full well there would be a trial at some stage.
Agreed Spain but I'd like to see a youngish man who would stay a while. I'm tired of the way we changed from Francis,Ardiles,Graham,Hoddle,Gross not in order of course. And I wouldn't want somebody too old with only a couple of years left which is why I'd go for Bilic.
Original, what were the circumstances which put him in the dock in the first place? A clever brief and QC could easily have convinced a jury of a guilty man's innocence,it happens all the time. The CPS don't bring cases to court unless there is a hell of a lot of evidence first.
I think we've done this one to death. Let's wait and see what Levy decides to do. Then, if it comes to it, we can have another lively debate about who should be Harry's successor.
