O'Nien's been brilliant for us filling in, but ultimately he's not a specialist and I'd much prefer to see him in midfield. Wright is probably our best defender and organiser, if it was anyone else the decision might not be as clear cut. We need O'Nien's enthusiasm in midfield as we get to the most important part of the season.

Id go with a back 3 of Onien, Sanderson and Wright.
That would make us a very solid unit. We have players that can nick a goal or 2 in that formation, leaving the opposition a tough job to break us down.
If things aren't going according to plan during the game then id switch to a back 4, and we have more than enough quality on the bench to come on and change the game round if need be.

i agree, too much is made of his ability to make overlapping runs upfield, first and foremost he needs to be a good solid reliable defender, anything else is a bonus, but we shouldn't need him upfield if everyone else is doing their job.

Didn’t really think of it like that tbh. On that basis I agree.

I agree to a point, but Under Parkinson he rarely had any help back there. This was the biggest issue IMO. Got left 2v1 all the time. He’s rarely outdone for pace though.

Aye, but I think full backs don't need to be electrifying, they just need to read the game well and know their job. I remember when we signed Alan Kennedy, and he was ****ing garbage at defending, mainly because he'd spent 10 years at Liverpool bombing down the wing in support of their attacking football. He was like a man lost at Roker
