2 goals from an attackive midfielder in 4 years. You may as well go for Modric!

Here is him against Everton. He has done well with literally every single home game he has played. However, like the rest of the team his away form was not of the same quality. Hope that was a blip. I honestly believe this season is his season to stake his claim. Ferguson will give him that chance.

    5 is greater than 2 <cheers>

In response to Swarbs not everyone from Manchester supports City and United (also I'm a student at the uni who is from Kent). Well lets look at Anderson as a midfielder then. Even so 2 goals in 4 years is pretty poor.

Assume you mean 5 Goals in 4 Years? That is pretty poor, but when I looked him on Wikipedia he's only scored 17 goals 183 appearances for all 3 clubs. (Gremio, Porto, and Man Utd). Thats little less than a goal every 10 games. He had a poor record at porto too, 3 in 25 appearances, but had 9 in 30 at gremio. Maybe he wasn't bought with the intention of being a goal scoring midfielder? Or possibly he was bought because Fergie and co. thought he had the potential to be a goal scoring midfielder. He did score 3 goals in May though!

I don't think Anderson can replace Scholes as he's a completely different type of player. I do feel, however, that he can make one of our CM spots his own, if he can stay clear of injury and focus on his game. Anderson has obvious quality and at his best, I would easily take him over any of our other CMs. It's up to him to push on and show that he can be at the top of his game on a more regular basis now.

scholes couldn't even replace Scholes, he hasn't been the same player for two or three years now.

He was unique player and of a differant era to now, we don't need to replace "scholes" we need a new type of player as we did when Robbo, Sparky, Keane even Ince left.

We need to adapt to a differant game, and grow as a differant style/type of team, this is United, this is what we do best since Busby threw the gauntlet down to everyone else all those decades ago.

We need to be patient and find the right player, there may not be an apparent player out there to mind, but somewhere there is, we just haven't found him/them yet, but they will come.

short answer NO.. Ando is not good enough, squad player at best. he did show a few signs of what he can do toward the end of last season but no where near consistent enough for me.

Agreed, would love to see him replicating that form for us.

Can we PLEASE STOP trying to put square pegs in circle holes. Rooney is a very good supporting striker. Lets leave him as that rather than pushing him deeper and trying to convert him into a central midfielder. It will only end badly (a la Alan Smith)!

Also agree that Anderson should be given a chance to shine, along with Cleverley, Morrisson and Pogba.

Anderson is certainly good enough. I would have him ahead of Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs and and Cleverly in the midfield. It should be Anderson and someone else. Anderson last season was also our top goal scoring central midfielder. Xavi is a world class player and one of the best in his pos but he only scored 5 goals in 50 games. Does that make him a bad player? Anderson scored 4 in 30, so you do the ratios. I am in no way saying Anderson is anywhere near as good as Xavi but I am saying goals are not the be all and end all from central midfield. We don't need goal scoring central midfielders as we have top strikers and wingers. Modric another player who is touted as a player we should get only got 4 goals last season with 2 from the spot. Anderson really needs to be given his chance. He is excellent at defending, attacking and has been mentored by Scholes as well. His passing is also very good as well as his short passing and through balls. With games he will improve and his major issue is his fitness. He is very, very quick and creates so much space when he is on the ball. Now lets hope his injury record improves. I am hugely confident he will prove his worth.
