I,m assuming Hitler coming out of hiding from Argentina & offering his services would not be a goer ?
BREAKING Burley & Butcher have thrown their hats in the ring https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/33666/
You will be fine Canary, put your trust in the professionals. The cancer surgery that mates of mine have had with nearby prostate record very good results for complete recovery and a healthy life...big man or small man! We are right behind you!
Not sure what to think of this, my heart is screaming yes but my head is wary. On the one hand, Burley's appointment would improve atmosphere and the feeling around the club. He will give academy players opportunities and we will be playing more attractive football. On the other hand, he has been out of the game for years, his managerial career since leaving us has been mostly hit and miss, and Butcher also has a dodgy managerial record. They both clearly feel passionately about the club, and I'd prefer them over a host of other candidates. It's still a younger, more progressive manager for me, somebody like Steijn or Hurst. I wouldn't be unhappy if Burley was the appointment though.
Similar thoughts to you Nuggets,I would see Burley as a retrograde step and Butcher, much as I loved the guy,has never really proved himself in management.
Part of me would absolutely love this.. Burley was the first manager I really remember since I've been following Town so this would be pure nostalgia. To get Portman Road rocking with "George Burley's barmy army" all over again would be incredible. But on the flip side. The fact that he dates back to my childhood just shows how long ago it was. Times have moved on drastically and so has football. Would love him to be involved in some way, but not sure management or part of the coaching set up is the best role for him, or the club
Got caught up in the nostalgia for a bit there and already started singing "Burleys Barmy Army", had to wind myself in abit but..... Why not, he has all the credentials has just been out of the game for a while. There's lot of interesting names being touted many of whom would be exciting appointments but despite this I bet ME appoints a manager who's done the rounds in the Championship like Simon Grayson or a big name with no experience like Lampard. Let's hope he goes for more of a calculated risk. There's alot of names on the list I like the sound of and many who have put there name forward have said exactly the right things with regards to what this club needs.
I don't see why in his right mind he'd leave Derby where well backed to risk his career with us !? Already had one shambles of a club in Brum - job done, tick.
Apparently it’s not as rosy as you think at Derby and he could be leaving at seasons end..... ...info from a source that is well positioned to hear a thing or two.....I’m just sharing the infomation with you guys.
I could handle Burley coming back, one thing's for sure, you know he'll give it everything and will have the club and fans interest at the heart of all he does. He's obviously not in the up and coming category that many want but I don't count him among the old, done the rounds crew either because of his strong connection to us. He must have thought long and hard about this and I would think he's only considering it because it's Ipswich and it pains him to see us in the state we're in. He knows he'll be given time to work on the team and that has to be an attractive proposal, knowing that you won't be shown the door after a few bad results as long as the long term plan is clear.
Me too. We seem to be well positioned as a club for him to take over with his philosohy also. Let's face it we're all looking for a carbon copy of him 20 years ago to take us forwards, as he's still around and has applied why not give him a go?
To be fair I think football has caught up to his style rather than left him behind...so I’m up for the ride...woooooo
Our George would at least bring back some life, inspiration, passion, loyalty, commitment, a strong Suffolk identity - he may be a risk, but, while I would normally go for a completely new look, style, modern approach, a younger man, we could do a lot worse by him! I can hear and see a packed PR ground heaving in August!
Derby fans like the game played a certain way - Rowett certainly doesn't play pretty stuff but he's a damn good manager. I don't think we'd go for anyone who plays the game remotely AV IT / think he'd find a better option than us if he were to leave Derby. He'll be a wanted man - fine manager.
