You're becoming a bore!! Goldie simply used a misleading terminology when describing assault weapons. Assault rifles are weapons like the AK47, M16 etc. Larger bore weapons are heavy duty machine guns, which can often be belt fed.

America does have too lax laws on weapons but that's only part of the problem. Lastly of course the USA. also has a large population of ex servicemen who have come back from far flung places hooked on speed, pep pills, or whatever, and who have not managed to settle back into normal life.
