It's the speed with which an automatic or semi-automatic rifle can fire that's frightening, still less an arsenal of them, as this killer seems to have had. And the power and penetration.

If he'd had an arsenal of revolvers, some innocent people would probably still have died, but not in such great numbers.

Assault rifles vary in durability and build

    They vary in bore

Some have larger capacity magazines than others

    They're not tanks

Have you never heard of a general purpose machine gun (GPMG) or the Heavy machine gun, which can fire 50 calibre rounds?

Yes but thats not an assualt weapon
Assault weapons nearly all have the same bore.

Actually, they range between 5-8mm, but I accept that larger bore isn't necessarily more lethal. The smaller, high velocity rounds can be just as damaging

    You're becoming a bore!!

Goldie simply used a misleading terminology when describing assault weapons. Assault rifles are weapons like the AK47, M16 etc. Larger bore weapons are heavy duty machine guns, which can often be belt fed.

Took this off a fire arms enthusiast on the web:

The biggest (by bore diameter) production assault rifle round is .50 Beowulf. .458 SOCOM and similar large-bore calibers exist too. They're mostly designed to shatter body armor. But in general assault rifle rounds will be between 5 and 8 mm in bore diameter.

If you disagree, I'll get him to write to you

Actually it doesn't really matter what was used - if a nutter wants to kill a large number of people then he can usually find a way of doing it. America does have too lax laws on weapons but that's only part of the problem. Switzerland also has a lot of weapons but they don't use them on each other - so the question is: Why are there so many nutters ? Just as important is the question: Why do we give nutters so much publicity ? Why, for example, do we give so much publicity to a nutter who drives a truck into a group of people - surely this gives the idea to others. Why do Americans turn on their TVs and see so much gratuitous violence on there ? Why do we allow so many violent games on the internet without effective censoring ? Can a wharped mind really see the difference between a crap film like eg. Terminator and real life ? Lastly of course the USA. also has a large population of ex servicemen who have come back from far flung places hooked on speed, pep pills, or whatever, and who have not managed to settle back into normal life. It all adds up to a dangerous cocktail.

Durbar, your posts are tiresome. You're picking at the slightest thread in an attempt to gain some sort of high ground. If you know something that others don't, why not simply offer your wisdom, rather than wind people up?

I really wasn't, but, as others have said, you really are becoming very tiresome.
