My flatmate said "I think you'll draw today - Shola wouldn't start for any other Prem team if they didn't ABSOLUTELY have to"

    I tried to argue...I struggled!

I'm going to say exactly what I said last time this came up just before the Spurs game (and my semi ironic name change), he's perfectly adequate backup and better backup than most teams outside the top 6. I'd certainly rather have him than a Jerome or a Bothroyd.

I think I'm in a minority but I actually thought he had a reasonable game today, barring the last ten minutes when he was plainly knackered. He was first to everything on the floor, decent in the air, and did indeed hold the ball up well which was key given we clearly decided one was enough with half an hour to go, we kept possession well. Could've had a goal too were it not for a last ditch touch away from him second half.

I was honestly surprised to see this thread today.

Spot on totally agree, apart from the bit in bold.

It's the same posters all the time, they hate Shola and are always having a go at him no matter what he does.

Typical Shola, just when you think he has turned the corner like against Man Utd, he puts in a 'shift' like that.

The lad has 39 goals to his name in 12 years of Premier League football.....Ray Wilkins unintentionally summed up Shola in 2 sentences:

"His goals tally is pretty abysmal"

"There's something wrong with Shola here hes jogging around, now hes stood stationery in the middle of the pitch, theres something wrong with shola"

You said it Ray, keep up the bad work.

No matter what Shola does? He doesn't do anything - herein lies the problem. He was god awful today, very much like he has been for the last ten years or so. He is quite simply an embarrassment. He will no doubt give a half decent performance against Sunderland but that will be it for the rest of the season.

Great run at the end? You mean the one when he perhaps took one of the worst touches of the season so far? He is a striker in all but name. He does nothing to warrant that tag whatsoever

Shola WAS poor, but then bar 1 or 2 so were the rest of the team to be fair.

But the point is, he DIDN'T score, as he hasn't in more than 200+ of his appearances! You could say that about any player after his bad performances and point out that if he'd scored he'd have been forgiven, but the fact is, Shola too rarely scores. Bottom line.

I thought shola was pretty bad today, i defend him a lot but i will admit he was nearly non existent today in my opinion.

i thought it was a terrible game all round tbh and even though we got the 3 points i felt a bit disappointed after the game.

yeah shola wasn't great but who else could have played. we could have gone 4-5-1, but then people would have complained its a "too negative approach". 4 4 2 with ben arfa starting is the only other option but even then with the cabaye injury things would have been shuffled and shola probably would have come on anyways.
