Of course he should have been booked. Does he not realise how long ago it is since I had a body that I would even think of removing my shirt. It is so unfair!
What should happen is that all the other 21 players and the referee should form two lines and politely applaud the goalscorer, saying bravo good sir, bravo.
Broke UEFA rules but not FIFA laws, there's a difference. Actually he may have been cautioned for excessive celebration so he probably did break FIFA laws but that's nothing to do with the sponsor.
While annoying the removing of shirt rule isn't anywhere near as bad as a booking for running into the crowd. Not every day you get to celebrate with one of your players and heros, and it offers a fleeting moment in which the gap between player and fan is bridged. Going mental with Fonte at Brighton away is one of my best memories supporting Saints. I'm sure others feel the same about that day.
That was great. But then again I'm sure there's someone, somewhere, who is wishing he had the chance to stab a footballer.
I don't think it's that, it's just that it makes people rush forward and could cause injuries to kids or whatever in the crowd. Perfectly sensible rule if you ask me. You know in just about every other country in the world sticking two fingers up at someone isn't considered offensive. Does that make us fundamentalists?
I'm sure Nigel will have had a word with Fonte about getting soft yellows. Defenders tend to get bookings...don't want to lose him later in season.
Aberdeen used to have a winger called Bertie Miller. One game he was a sub, and the manager asked him to get stripped - he took off his track suit bottoms to reveal his jock strap ! Fonte bears his torso and gets a card, Miller bears his arse and gets nothing - where`s the consistency in that ??
