Couple of points/thoughts, he has been employed until the end of the 2014/15 season, he is employed as Head Coach in the reports I have seen, not manager therefore will not be in charge of player recruitment as this will be in the domain of the director of football. The club spent £100 million plus in the summer transfer window, have ambitions to be a permanent top 4ish club in the Premier League and had given the job to AVB to take them forward from Redknapp's time when he had achieved the best finish for them in 4th place, it feels to me as if Levy has grabbed a handgrenade, pulled out the pin and is now standing not knowing what to do with it. Even as a coach Sherwood has been in charge of the development squad along with Sir Les, he lacks experience in not only dealing with matches at this level but also with players at this level, this appears to me to be a very high risk strategy on Levy's behalf and could be brilliant or disaster, the other issue is having sacked Rednapp when the team was performing at a good level what now after AVB's sacking with a team in transition will constitute success or failure, will be interesting for us looking in especially as they are in direct competition with us for league position.

    Of course it's a gamble.
But who has he actually been preferred too,
The managerial pond isn't exactly brimming with many choices just now, who they could get.

The 18 month contract is probably a red-herring and takes away the need for the term interim Head Coach or whatever. No doubt when the summer comes, they will be fishing for a new head coach / manager and get who they actually want - Van Gaal.

I think if De Boer had said yes, they'd have gone with that. Levy probably expected him to swim from Amsterdam for his little job, but t'weren't to be.

He is Head Coach, so I don't really know what that means, but for us it's potentially fantastic news as Spurs now go from a top-6 cert to upper-mid table for me. Doesn't mean a great deal, of course, as we're still up against Man U for 5th!!!!

Very tight at the top with only 2 points between 1st and 5th, makes the Christmas matches really interesting to see if one team can break away a bit, as for Spurs if you are going to gamble on the appointment with Sherwood they could have gone for Mackay at Cardiff, a manager who has at least a level of experience and as with Rodgers at Liverpool the potential to succeed at a bigger club, he has also maintained a massive amount of dignity in very difficult circumstances.

AVB was hardly great, far from it, but to sack a manager with experience (albeit limited) to install someone with nowt is bizarre.

Tim Sherwood not only has no management experience at all, he's not even technically qualified to take the manager's job!

So you spend over £100m and hand the squad to someone who has clearly cost nothing to promote.

Sadly for him I suspect he'll also cost very little to axe when a better bloke becomes available...

Sounds more like something our Cockney rejects would do.
