Fair point saint. It's not the banter thread. I think Shelvey will come good for us. I didn't know there was a band called Personal Abuse, by the way.
Thanks for your comments, appears I'm not alone in thinking Shelvey is not cutting it at Liverpool. I agree that maybe playing with the likes of gerrard and Suarez puts pressure on him. I hope he comes good and proves me wrong
He played well in the first half but disappeared a bit in the second. Could have something to do with Coady going off for Suso to take up Jonjo's AM spot. It meant Jonjo had to be more conservative further back along Henderson
This. Sadly he is only effective in the AM role. He also seems to get lost when its slow play with the reserve squad. He is much better with high tempo and better players.
I assume you're not judging him on that one kick though? I think it's fascinating that we (most of us) support the same team and watch the same games but come to widely differing conclusions. I thought he had a decent game throughout, although I agree he tailed off as the game wore on. He showed good control and kept possession in some really tight situations in the first half. He's had games in the past where a lot of his passes have gone astray, but I didn't notice too much of that today. I thought he had one of his better games.
I think he played alright but it was one of his average days. I've seen him play worse, I've seen him play better, but he does seem to struggle with possession. Gerrard always struggled (and still does) with possession play too. They both want to be Roy of the Rovers!
He's young enough to learn and will improve, I think he needs to trim down and get a bit more mobile.
Still young but with his movement, game intelligence, the timing of his runs and willingness to get into the box I can't help but feel he could be a 10-15 goal a season midfielder if he develops his finishing and composure infront of goal. What's promising is he does get a lot of opportunities when he's in that attacking midfielder role. Rough diamond he is, hopefully brendan can polish him and turn him into a quality premier league player.
He played well in patches last night but I think the first thing BR needs to polish is his shocking inability to use his left foot. Did anyone else get onto the cross he put in from the left edge of the box in the first half where he tried to curl it in with the outside of his right peg and put it straight into the keepers arms? It was criminal. How can a top level footballer be THAT one footed? He had the chance against Newcastle where Suarez pulled it back to him and he scuffed it straight at the keeper because he swang his right at it when he should have just let it run across him onto his left. Oh and he can be dropped from free kick duties as well
