Yep the charge is that Shelvey made his comments around or in the 87th minute when Anita was sent off, all very odd, again supposed to have made the comment to or directed at Saiss who doesn't speak English and reported by another Wolves player, the time gap is also very odd from the game to FA charging him. All in all very suspect though with many tv angles should be relatively easy to see if he was giving it some or not.
They did say it was reported immediately after the game though, so presumably a full investigation needed to be conducted and evidence gather before any formal accusation was made.
It's all been a simple misunderstanding, your honour. Mr Shelvey had innocently pointed and shouted "black current" at the Wolves player as he had thought he had spilled some Ribena on his shirt during his half time refreshments. You can buy that, right?
I have read that he responded to a player who mocked his alopecia, this does not excuse him, but if this was the case, I would like the see the other player charged as players should be running around mocking someone who has follicle issues. I have watched the replays around the 87th min, and I couldn't see that shelvey was close enough to anyone to make a comment
no one made an effort to confront him about what was alleged said nor did anyone speak to the ref at the time of the incident had it been against one of our players I'm sure our players would of kicked off, yet there was nothing all very strange, unless the FA are employing lip readers for all games now
I think it's all a bit pathetic, it's two months after the incident and its a couple of words. The world has gone mad, I don't condone racist behaviour in any way, but players rile each other up in different ways, whether it be verbally or physically, the moment you stand there and let someone know your hurt by what they've said you become a victim and you let them win. Sticks and stones. I think the majority of this world need to man up! Kind of reminds me of this http://news.sky.com/story/apology-after-tannoy-reprimand-for-eastern-european-beggar-10659376 How is this racist?
Had another look at the video and it looks as if Shelvey may have responded to Saiss waving his arm at the ref wanting the card to be shown, he was still a considerable distance from the player and as said why did no other player react especially the one who alleges the offense in the first place. The way the rules are written calling another player a "Silly ****er" constitutes an offense of abuse, if he said "Silly Moroccan ****er" this would constitute aggravated abuse as it includes a reference to Ethnicity, Race or Nationality, you really don't have to say a lot for the FA to be able to consider it an offense.
Go Jonjo, let's hope he's telling the truth!!! Would this get him an extended ban if he's found guilty???
Not 100% sure but I presume he would as it would be deceitful. It's just a rumour like most stuff, but the Wolves player's evidence relies on a witness, but Jonjo has pleaded not guilty because he apparently has his own witness and he feels he's been vindicated in what is a mix up!
A witness helps, although this will obviously be a team mate who has a vested interest in getting him off the hook. Dunno how you can get completely get to the bottom of this until you have very good lip readers who were there at the scene, or the defence is completely flimsy, a la Suarez. nufc.com saying he's likely to player Sunday now due to the requested personal hearing, hells yeah!
If I had to make an argument, it would go something like: a. the beggar is eastern european b. the announcement suggested his behaviour was acceptable/the norm in his country c. the announcement therefore implied that all/most eastern europeans are beggars d. the announcement was therefore xenophobic (which people who can't spell or use a dictionary equate to racist). Having said that, I agree with you. Complaining about issues like this belittles real racism. There's enough of the proper stuff around - - you don't need to try to read it in to every comment which appears to acknowledge that we are not all exactly the same in every way.
This sounds to me like a stitch up. I suspect that there is little evidence and I fully expect him to be found not guilty.
