"Houghton, of Black Carr Road, Rotherham, was released on bail ahead of a sentencing hearing on 17 November."

“Houghton, from Rotherham, was bailed and will be sentenced on 17 November.

    • District judge James Gould told him “your actions are utterly deplorable” and that all sentence options were open, including a prison sentence.”

Nice one hopefully 6 weeks in jail and out after Christmas and New Year <laugh>

So, this stupid little scrote who thought he was engaging in some "enjoyable banter" (his words) has lost his job, been charged with a criminal offence (sentenced next month) and been banned from attending any football game in the United Kingdom

    Justice served I'd say

People like that always think it's funny until they have to face the consequences of their actions.

Most of the Wednesday fans have been decent thankfully, which is a credit to them.

Sadly there's a few still giving it the 'boys will be boys' defence and telling everyone 'it's time to move on'

That really has become a default response, for idiots, and is really aggravating..

Oh, he's claiming to have been high on cocaine when he did it

I knew there had to be a reason why such an upstanding member of the community would act in such a disgusting manner

Now. Who can we say spiked him?

    From his lawyer

No there wasn't. The only interaction between the fans was when we scored and a few daft lads took their tops off and gestured towards East stand "massive"

Gesturing and taunting happens at every ground in the country ...

... it doesn't excuse this in any way.

In fact there is no excuse.

I am with you. This season he has been on a different level. Jack Clarke gets the plaudits, but Dan Neil is the big cog in this team. The way he plays makes his team mates jobs much easier. January will be a testing time for us with premier league clubs calling for him. I think he goes in the summer sadly, because a really big club will come calling. We might get offered big bucks in Jan, but the likes of Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd will wait until the summer to make the move. I dread the day he goes personally, there is no more vital footballer in our team, but the lad is going right to the very top in my opinion.

I agree with some he makes mistakes. But like you say they are becoming less and they get jumped on more than others I believe. He probably now makes the least mistake of any player in our team, and in his position that is some statement. I have said this before and people may laugh, but he reminds me so much of Rodri, and he is the best in the prem. He can go on and be that good in my opinion. The thing I hang onto is Rigg is the next cab off the rank and I think he could be even more fun to watch. I make no apologies at all for wanting home grown lads to do better more than I do players brought. They are so much more valuable to us.

Just seen this, mate. Disgusting but not surprising. Pricks like this think they can get away with it anonymously and that they can't be traced. What arseholes like this don't get is behaviour like this is bullying, in this instance it's the Lowery family, and friends and it's possible to trace someone. Just like the Sheffield knobs, you can think you're clever until it catches up with you.

Everyone has the right to free speech, but with that you are responsible for whatever the outcome is from what you say. If you deliberately say or do something offensive and people are offended and angry at you for it, you don't laugh it off as "free speech" or "banter" and that it's "your right"because if your lucky the knock on the door is only the police to have a word with you and not hopefully a couple of big blokes with baseball bats.
