I think Neil knows exactly what he’s doing. Highlighting lack of quality in depth and putting a bit of pressure on the recruitment lads to get cracking
I think tonight shows exactly why really. I’d be delighted to finish 12th. Aiming high is great. And I’m an optimist, but realistically I can’t see us getting play offs. Simply because of the depth of squad. A league 1 second team just beat us without playing well. I thought they were rubbish personally, but they were streets ahead of us
Whilst I don't think diamond is good enough I think that was unfair on him tonight .. playing him upfront with no support was bad management in my view..no idea what Neil wanted to see from that . we saw that in the friendlies so no point in doing it again. apart from wanting to be out of the competition. waste of time.
According to this O'Nien was our best player statistically, I've no idea how reputable the site is: https://www.sofascore.com/sunderland-sheffield-wednesday/msQ If anyone has stats which contradict it stick a link up I'd be interested to see.
Delighted with 15th here imo. The talk off playoffs etc, as exciting as it is, isn't happening imo. Obviously I wouldn't turn it down but I can't see it.
I thought O’Nien looked better second half further forward. There was a lot of inexperience in that team. And one or two league one players. Alese’s a prospect. Just can’t defend very well atm. Hume’s good. Some criticism for Neil. They seemed to have more players than us. The players seemed a bit lost.
I don't think we need stats mate, that was poor and no one made a case for a starting place imo ... ... Embleton and Roberts were the biggest disappointment for me.
The result is on the whole unimportant tonight because we aren’t gonna win the trophy, but the performance is worrying.
I am trying to keep hold of the positive league results so far and hope we can continue on in the way we have started. I am sure once we start losing a few to injury that early season optimism will quickly drain away. But for now I want to believe we can do it. I am just going to ignore tonight’s result. Don’t know why Neil thought changing the full team was a good idea unless he really only wanted to see us knocked out. I don’t think we will see too many of them in the first team squad even over the course of the season. The odd one will make a few games but not in great numbers.
Diamond did well I thought, certainly a case for coming off the bench and stretching a tried defence with his runs. Can't play up front on his own though, but a different option to Stewart and Simms
O'Nien does because without them he's ****e according to quite a few. Same story as last couple of seasons, gets the most pelters has among the best stats.
Granted it was just a cup game. But Jesus that was a hard watch!!!! There are quite a few in that 11 that wouldn't dare knock on AN door tomorrow asking to be included in the game against QPR. They all looks like they'd been out on the drink all day and then asked to play!!!
Not dismissing the stats mate but the only thing contradicting those was was my eyes. I love the lad to bits but he wasn't good tonight.
