The Whites will be on a high, have recorded back to back wins against Bristol City and Reading. Can Leeds make it three on the bounce. Leeds midweek win against Reading lifted them to second place, a point off leaders Norwich whilst Sheffield Utd were held on Saturday to a 2-2 draw at Rotherham, but made amends on Tuesday by coming from behind to beat Brentford 3-2. A win or draw against the Blades will catapult Leeds above the Canaries, at least until 5pm. Bielsa has big decisions to make on Saturday! Phillips or Halme for the injured Jansson? Both Baker and Alioski failed to impress, and were replaced at half time by Saiz and Clarke who made a big difference both in tempo, and in chances. The Blades have leaked four goals in the last two games, how attacking minded will Bielsa be? Izzy Brown is due to play the full 90 minutes of the U23 game at St James Park on Friday (Newcastle, not Exeter City). Should all go to plan, Izzy be be on the bench Saturday week v QPR at Elland Road.
Phillips over Halme, Saiz instead of Baker, Clarke was decent, he will get better and better but his decision making is poor, well not poor, just inexperienced and if I am picking Saiz I believe Alioski has a better understanding with him. Start Alioski and introduce Clarke if needed, one thing we can't do again is bring on Shackleton for Klich or Forshaw, not when we haven't got Phillips in the holding role.
Just checking out the table and in my view the top 3 teams are Leeds, Boro and Forest based upon games won and number of losses. Forest and Boro have lost twice we have lost 3 but the others in the top 6 have lost 4 or 5. We have the most wins from these teams plus the best goal difference, so for now I’m discounting Norwich, WBA and Sheff Utd and expect us to beat the blades on Saturday to go clear at the top.
Just on the Izzy Brown thing for Friday theres also a chance that Bamford will get some time on the pitch too
I’m keen both are available. Not rushing to demote Roofe, but it would be good to have another option at least on the bench. I know little about Brown other than reputation, but it is at least possible he might be the answer as none of Sais Forshaw Klich Brown seem recently to be the perfect solution. Again good to have another option to try.
That measure can be a good indicator. The other is GD, on that we and Boro again look good and West Brom come into the reckoning. Also Norwich had their defeats early on in a bad start, I wouldn’t discount them.
Brown’s a 10 and a straight swap for Saiz. Classy footballer but... a year out?! Some lads come back and don’t skip a beat, others are never quite the same. It’s a wait and see but not sure it’s wise to pin hopes on him.
I wouldn’t read too much into win/loss ratios. Etc. Boro and forest are managed by two guys who know how to set a team up not to lose. As are Birmingham. So they have shed loads of draws but don’t win enough. Wins are where it’s at! We’ve had a fair few draws but we get them trying to win. I think that mentality will help us continue to pick up more wins than forest and boro and very possibly more losses. But Hopefully more points!
hey Milky this is just the data I use when I look at league progress as it is usually fairly sound. However as you and others have said its not an exact science and look at Fulham last season who were 16th after 19 games and the Blades were 4th. The top 2 after 19 games went up? As far as the Blades match goes if Pontus is back great, but if not I wonder if Halme gets another go because i thought we lost something in attack with having Phillips as a CB and not spraying passes around?
Had a little nose around there & was surprised to find that despite all of our injuries & setbacks, that we're actually 7 points ahead of where we were last season at this stage (36 v 29)! Over the last 5 years (inc this season), this is how many points we've won after 19 games - 36, 29, 32, 22, 23. The general consensus was, and I believe still is, that first half of last season was something of a purple patch for us. And yet here we are today, much better off, but with Leeds supporters using social media (esp. FB) to vigorously attack this season's performance & players on a daily basis. You couldn't make it up!
Shhh you’ll get Chesh started, you know what a racist he is. And only one of them is Brown - that’s the mistake I made
