Sorry but Trey is another Burstow for me, he contributes very little for a lad of his size in open play. One for the future maybe but not ready yet iom. Our forwards worry me a bit thats why I go with only 2 up front for this one.
After tonight, 3 of the next 4 are all winnable home games. Avoid defeat tonight then get back on that winning horse....
Thanks for another fantastic match day thread RTB. Very difficult game and very difficult to call. We've had games like this before when we've been written off and made something happen. Will see again tonight what the squad are made of and I think we may just surprise a few . I would take a point now and move on. Give it everything that's all I ask. Haway the lads.
I know many of you don’t like the idea but I really think Onien playing where Neil is currently playing would be a great move and many would wonder why we didn’t try it earlier. Luke has been great in all the 4 defensive positions he’s been asked to play in and he should be able to dictate our play being just in front of the back 4. He can help out defending and come forward in attack as well as his impressive passing. It would also enable Neil to play further forward with Jobe or Rigg, a better position for him than his current one. Just because some of you say he was poor in our midfield a few years ago doesn’t mean he’s no good for it now. He’s improved a huge amount and will have a different type of player around him than he had all those years ago. We have little to lose by trying this as Luke will at worst still be good but we may have 2 players in better positions if it works. He tried Wilson on the L wing which didn’t work, Watson on the R wing as well so why not give Luke a run in Neil’s position. It also means we can also keep Ballard and Mepham as a pair for our central defence.
Personally I would play a 4/4/2 line up, giving O/9 a sweeper/man marking role against there midfield aided by a Jobe, Dan and Rigg , and a front 2 of Mayenda /Isidor ahead of them. It would also improve our options off the bench ?
Snap your hands off for a draw but we really could do with a win for momentum/confidence - a young side can drain confidence quickly. Worked hard against West Brom to be honest - wasn't the worse performance you will see by a long way but need players like Paddy to step up at the moment
It's absolutely mental how far Luke O'Nien has come that we have Dan Ballard and Chris Mepham and there's even a debate about whether O'Nien should play centre back ahead of either of them.
Literally just thinking that myself. O'Nien at the base of a midfield diamond. Drop Watson and have Wilson and Mayenda up front.
Yeh, I posted in on page 2 of this thread but not clearly enough, but the more I think of it the more I like it, solves so many problems , and keeping the team spirit alive , an important factor imo.
