Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough BLASTS FA for moving third round clash with QPR NIGEL CLOUGH has slammed the FA for giving QPR an extra day's rest ahead of their third round clash at home to Sheffield United. By Paul Brown / Published 2nd January 2015 The tie has been put back 24 hours to tomorrow to allow Rangers more recovery time after their 1-1 draw with Swansea on New Year's Day. But Blades boss Clough is furious that Harry Redknapp's top flight strugglers have been given special treatment and claims it betrays the proud tradition of football's greatest knockout competition. Clough's men haven't been in action since Boxing day, but he is desperate for any edge he can get to help cause another upset. The League One reached the semi-finasl last season and are in the last four of the Capital One Cup this term. "We don't agree with it and we're not happy about it," said Clough. "First and foremost for the fans, who have a long enough trip as it is without kick-off times and days being moved. "Premier League sides have 25-man squads and lots of money, and Rangers will probably rotate their squad from the Swansea game so they'll have fresh players out there against us anyway. "I think the term used by the authorities was 'special dispensation.' "But it should be the same for all clubs - after all, they agreed to stage fixtures on New Year's Day, so it's hardly a surprise for them to play two days later. please log in to view this image "It's FA Cup third round day, and it really should be played on a Saturday at 3pm." Richard Dunne has told QPR to avoid more cup misery tomorrow so they can start dreaming of Wembley again. Dunne was part of the Rangers team that won promotion there last May after a play-off final win over Derby. But he was also part of the QPR side embarrassed by non-league Burton in the second round of the Capital One Cup earlier this season. He said: "We have to use Sheffield United to get us back on a winning run. "We want to win it. For clubs like QPR and the fans a day out at Wembley is something we all want. We want to be in the hat. "I got to the semis with Aston Villa five or six years ago. We got beat by Chelsea 3-0. I played in that semi at Wembley. It would be nice to get back there. "It seems a long way away but it would be a lovely way to finish the season off. Everyone knows the beauty of the cup and how it is. "But we got beat by Burton earlier in the season so we know we have to perform."
Surely we were told that we had to play New Years Day whether we liked it or not. They have had all week to rest and he is complaining at our lot getting two days rest.
I really don't know what his problem is as it is ditto for most of the gang who play on Sunday:- Dover v Crystal Palace QPR v Sheff Utd Sunderland v Leeds Aston Villa v Blackpool Man City v Sheff Wed Southampton v Ipswich Stoke v Wrexham Yeovil v Man Utd Chelsea v Watford Arsenal v Hull Only Leicester, Newcastle & WBA play Saturday:- Leicester v Newcastle West Brom v Gateshead and of course Swansea, with limited rest after our New Year's Day fixture (sorry Taff):- Tranmere 2-6 Swansea and Monday:- Burnley v Tottenham Wimbledon v Liverpool and Tuesday:- Everton v West Ham
We must be the first team ever to be beaten by a non league club in the league cup (or we would be if Burton weren't in league 2). Clough Jr sounds just like Clough Sr without the humour.
Stupid comments. Does he think the teams in the prem get to pick and choose the days they get to play league fixtures?! What a soppy tart
He's just trying to create a we've been scorned mentality to try and give some extra zest to his players.
Not sure they will really need any additional incentive, they must fancy their chances against us and our notoriously poor FA Cup record, what is it 1 win in 12 years or so?
Sorry, not intended (I left out the only Welsh PL side) - I attempted to cherry pick other PL teams involved in FA Cup fixtures.
Yes, we appear in the hall of shame:- FA Cup third round statistics: Winners, losers and underdogs please log in to view this image please log in to view this image http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30562324
The way he's going on you'd think it had been rearranged this week because of them having their game(s) cancelled. As it was done weeks ago he should just shut up and get on with it.
