Weds & utd will always get big crowds because it families v families! It's a bit like FC & Rovers! You're one or the other! Even most of the city fans have a preference!

Just checked, I thought it was 750k but it's 550k. Fair point. It's still 300k more than Hull.

Metropolitan Sheffield is 1.569 million, we don't have the equivalent.

That's three times the size of Hull and surrounds.
The have support in Derbyshire and Notts.

They're reeling a few in on there. Decent site, very good emoticons.
Reyt (see what I did there?) old chat on there, all mediaeval with thee, tha etc like urban Emmerdale talk.

Let them talk up there massive support, with no day trippers whatsoever, just 20K fans who have been absent from Hullsborough all season.

My personal favourites was the following to a previous final kept going up from 40k finishing at 50k

Yeah and I would bet not many follow teams from outside the area

I have many mates in Sheffield I like the place been loads of times.....but
What is it about Sheffield football supporters which makes them full of hubris ?
I remember the bollocks from the Sheffield United message boards prior to the semi final whereby posters seriously suggested that they ( division 1 , us Premier league ) were a better team , had less journey men than us , would give us the run around etc etc. sadly didn't turn out that way though it was a decent game and a good performance by Sheff United.
Now their pals across the city are seeking to excel even that bollocks. Apparently they are a better unit, have the best player, are the best footballing team in the division,we'll crumble , their mighty support will roar them home because we are just a rugby 'town' etc etc
Now I don't mean to be rude but if I'm not mistaken we finished with more points than them with more goals scored and less conceded. True we didn't beat them but nor did they beat us.
Yes it's true we were awful against Derby at home alternatively though we were sublime in the first leg.
It's true that Sheff Wednesday have been a bigger club Historically in terms of achievements, and status but again unless I'm mistaken their recent years have been spent bobbing along in the championship or division 1. They were last at Wembley in 1993 and made the league one play off in 2005 at Cardiff.
In contrast we have spent 4 seasons in the top flight reached a cup final and been in Europe. Modest not great but certainly better than anything achieved by Sheff weds in the same period. It's true our gates this season have been poor and we all know why but over the past ten years we have had higher average gates than them on at least 5 occasions and they usually have around 12,000 empty seats we have 7,000.
I know we have our share of message board warriors and the like but nothing on the scale of the crap now appearing not just on their fans forums but also in the local rag.
Apart from foresteri I cannot think of one of their players whom is swop for any of our top 11
I strongly suspect they are in for the same kind of fall to earth as their piggish neighbours it'll be harder but it'll be the same outcome

Arrogant set of cun** at S6 and always were.

Why do think the hated for either Sheffield Town pub teams still exists and has done since the sixtys?

It's amusing that those of you who decry some clubs harking back to their pasts and deludedly thinking they should be doing better than they are, are the same who used harking back to our history as the reasons for being anti name change.

Anyhow, it's a cup final game. They finished in the play off places. It's quite possible they'll beat us, although we should be more than capable of winning it of course.

But, its a funny game at times, finals games are funny, who knows what will happen? Getting all uppity at the other clubs fans thinking they should win is kinda silly.

You can always interpret these things to your own advantage. Leeds has a population of 200,000 more than Sheffield. A Wednesday fan at work a while back, must have been 2004 as that was the last year I worked there, used to delight in telling Leeds fans that more people turned out every week to watch 2nd and 3rd division football in Sheffield than turned out in Leeds, a city with a population nearly 50% higher, for Premier League football.
Just looked it up and Wednesday got 22,000 in Div 3, Sheffield Utd 21,000 in Div2 total 43,000. Leeds got 36,000.

I remember reading on a Sheffield United forum around the FA Cup final that they would overtake us in two years and we would drop like a stone. Well they still haven't managed to even get promoted.

I live in Sheffield and most of my football team mates are Weds fans, and to be fair none of them are going over the top, they are all delighted after years of getting no where near to be in with a chance and rightly fancy themselves in a one off game. Let's face it, after the first leg against Derby, anyone coming on here would assume the majority of our fans were full of it as most of us were talking like we'd already gone up

Precisely the point I was going to make. They talk about us being 'tin pot' with no fans but Sheffield is three times bigger than Hull. They dont average three times the crowds City, Hull FC and Rovers get (about the best comparison I can come up with).

They also need to realise this isnt exciting for us - this is our fourth game at Wembley in eight years. The first time it was a mad scramble for tickets, much like they're having now, whereas we're a bit (too) blase about this. Plus we - unlike them - know the modern Premier League aint that great either. When we're in it a lot of our fans spend all the time moaning about how **** it is, so why should we be delirious about getting back up there?
Some decent points you make.

Apparently 'thousands' of the masses hordes of wendies will be filling our end that'll be from the huge 22,000 average they had this season
Now I can understand how having spent most of the last 20 years grubbing around the lower divisions frequently overshadowed by their more successful neighbours they are now poised to return to the league they graced for oh at least 4 or 5 seasons on the 90s having spent the previous thirty years desperately trying to regain the title of biggest team in Sheffield.
Yes I can just see the met waving in hordes of blue and white bedecked six fingered troglodytes into an area reserved for City fans.
Still it'll be amusing to see the concourse awash with blotchy red lachrymose pissed up thee thas

Just had a comedy hour reading all the posts on your link to owlstalk OLM was PSML for most of the time! think (correction KNOW) they will be more then surprised to see such a turnout from their northern neighbours (if they can find their way!) lol. Will be all crossed but 2-0 cum on u ull...CHANT...'tuesday, tuesday give us a song, while ur being licked by the dull kittens'...luv it.
