Just got back from the game. I think we'd all have taken a point before the game. Wednesday are a decent side and it was always going to be a close game. However, we seemed to encourage them to come on to us and the 20-25 minutes before half time was dreadful. We kicked on well in the 2nd half and showed much more threat but it still felt really slow watching us try and come forward at times. Opportunities arose for us to make some good breaks forward and we simply didn't make the most of them. A draw was a fair result overall and when you aren't at your best you'd always take a point away from home, though we can only judge this result properly after the next two home games. The team also seemed to work better once the midfield 3 of Diame, Huddlestone and Livermore was broken up. Diame especially seemed to really slow things down in the first half and things seemed sharper once he was replaced. It was refreshing to see improvement with corners from Maloney, though why can't Hudd ever seriously test the keeper with decently placed free kicks? We have a very talented squad and it is down to Bruce to make sure he is getting the best out of them. We could well end up outside of the top 6 after the Derby game tomorrow and we really need to start being more assertive in games. We may concede more, but we have the potential to score more as well. At times, grinding out a 1-0 win is fine but it's horses for courses and we need to try and be more adventurous going forward. Here's hoping we can make the most of home advantage this week. Great stuff from the fans today as well. Even if it is only an hour away, a 12:30 kick off doesn't always suit everyone and the fans made lots of noise all through the game. Great stuff with the inflatable alien and messing about with the camera guy in the stand.
We still have the same problems we had at the end of last season. We really need to start finding goals from midfield, and from the wings and maybe another striker.... Someone other than Hernandez would be scoring. We don't have an out and out wingers. Elmo looks completely lost when he moves to the wing. Him and Odubajo do not work together, we have tried it at least 4 times now and it hasn't worked once, and I highly doubt it will. Maloney looked lost today until we started playing a bit quicker so he had some space. Hernandez works so hard, but he is far more effective with someone alongside him. Clucas I thought was fairly poor, never took a man on, looked sideways and provided very little width or creativity. We still have no idea what system to play, and what our best team is. Despite all of this negativity we got a point against an in form team. Imagine what we will do when Bruce finds his best team and formation.
The 'sacked in the morning' chant at the cameraman after the alien incident was probably the highlight of the day.
Me n the juniors had a great day. Could have gone either way Draw a fair result. Roll on Tuesday. Following Hull City Whats not to like ?
First game I've seen us play "live" in several weeks thanks to BeInSports. Another typical Bruce tactical performance...mid-field slowing the game down passing the ball sidewards and backwards...nobody making runs or through balls down the middle...no creativity...entirely predictable...Huddlestone moving at half speed and taking shockingly bad free kicks. Watching Watford creating multiple openings against Arsenal with the game played at top speed shows just how far we've regressed. We will be lucky to be higher than mid table at Christmas. We have enough quality players to challenge for promotion. But next year with several of our best players moving on or out of contract we will be in a battle for Championship survival unless Bruce and his style of play are replaced soon.
Being mid table would most likely mean only a couple of wins from top spot . I think its a very open league...i like the fact that all matches we play we have a chance of winning....not that we will win them all. Wednesday are a decent team...imo. Some great play by city at times.. You must have watched a different game to me canada. I wanted us to win.....im not pissed off we got a point. Even if we lose so what.... Its football We are Hull City We are going to lose games.
McGregor was brilliant. Immense. Like a cross between Gordon Banks and Billy Bly, only younger, and Scottish. He saved us a point. I read it somewhere.
Agree with this .I am delighted for Livermore that he is back in the team, but he and Huddlestone as a combination hasn't been working since about January 2014, and STILL they seem to be the first two midfielders pencilled in. If nothing else, surely we can expect our central midfield players to contribute a few goals. And Bruce more or less admits he keeps giving Diame a place hoping he'll refind form, rather than on merit.
-> Imagine what we will do when Bruce finds his best team and formation. How long does he need!!!?? It's like deja vu (all over again) on here, week after week. Same comments time and again (except from those few who are just overt optimists, not realistists). Players out of position, ineffective up front, pedestrian, negative, slowing it down, predictable, ****e free kicks, little creativity, blah blah blah. There's one other constant too. And that's Bruce. What do they say, something like 'doing the same thing time and again but expecting a different result is the sign of madness'. Why live in hope that Bruce will somehow "find his best team and formation" and it will suddenly somehow click? And another week saying 'they were a decent side'?! Bollocks. They were average. Look at our squad. If only Bruce knew what to do with it. Never mind, yep, let's pin our hopes on that Diomande bloke. You know, the one who has never played outside the Norwegian league, other than a failed season in friggin Belarus. Yep, genius. The guy lost the plot very many months ago. To have any chance of promotion we need a change now. If not it will be exactly as Canada says; our decline back to the lower leagues. #BruceOut.
I know he got in some good positions, and he keeps popping up with goals but he seriously ****s me off the amount of times he ducks out of aerial challenges. He runs up to where the ball is landing, then backs off a yard as the defender gets close to him. It's like he's trying to look like he can't reach it but he's clearly just scared of getting hit. He does it time after time. He certainly wasn't the biggest reason for our lack of prowess today but he was the only one whose fight can be questioned. People call Tom out all the time but you don't see him or anyone else ducking out of challenges like Hernandez does. He's giving us way more than he did last season but I still find him incredibly frustrating. He's so bloody slow as well; he was routinely outpaced by an aging Michael Turner ffs. I'm hoping Diomande gives us a bit of presence up front, but then I don't know how we can fit him and Hernandez in at the same time. Hernandez would get loads more chances to finish if someone up there was willing to fight for it like Jelavic used to.
