Thought you'd be the last person to jump the sinking ship but you have chosen your new team wisely Doc
Nathan Winder Wiki and the news confirms he joined with Heckingbottom straight from Barnsley, PH brought him with him
It was a figure of speech Ristac, and I never said up a level, I said up to the required fitness level. I could've said down to the required fitness level, but that would've been wrong. Maybe I should've said to gain the required fitness level.....
Hey look, I’m honestly not trying to be picky or argue a point but seriously... Up a level or up to the required fitness level, come on how are those different, they are the same thing surely? Either way, I think Doc is blaming not fit enough and need to train more and get fitter and you are saying they have over trained leaving them tired so two different opinions and train of thought
Here's the difference, up a level means going up one level, up to the required level means anywhere between one and several levels. Up to the required fitness level is a figure of speech, and I did explain that I probably should've used "gain the required fitness level" My reasoning for saying looks like over training is based on the first games prior to the first Millwall game. We all saw everyone getting stuck in, running and playing for the team, they all looked fit throughout the full 90 minutes or so of every game, then, as you quite rightly mentioned " how can a whole team play crap together" or words to that effect. Doc may well have meant not fit enough, and it is two trains of thought, and I may be wrong as well, but the whole team began playing with complacency and there was erratic passing, the football level dropped off, commitment seemed in decline, enthusiasm was on a downward spiral and so on. By rights, after the first 6 to 8 games, and sitting on top of the league, the players should've still been on a high and enthusiasm and the want to win through the roof, but all of a sudden they declined, and we saw that over several games, there has to be a logical reason for it. Whatever that reason is, it created a negative impact on the whole team.....
If anything I’d say not fit enough but when you look at the amount of staff employed (on Wiki) it is criminal if the players are not in tip top condition. Over or under trained, it really should never happen but and a big but... I find it strange that out of the two Heckingbottom brought with him, one is now “Head of sports science” usually you’d expect a new guy to bring in a second in command and GK coach or a couple of assistant coaches, was a strange one to bring along for the ride... Looking up the job title, it seems (and I could be wrong) that a fitness coach reports to the science guy with the view of implementing and ensuring fitness programs are adhered to.
I also found it strange bringing a head of sports science as you'd think Leeds would've had one of their own already. Not 100% sure, but I'd presume the fitness coach discusses the levels of training required, ref under or over training, as well as food and supplement intake.
According to Wiki we did have our own, a Spanish guy who had the title “Sports Science” we still have him with the same title, the new guy in has the title “Head Of Sports science”. Seems a bit overkill to me and like I said IF fitness one way or another is the issue and I were Rads I’d start to question why I have so many on the payroll. Let’s be brutally honest too, a good old fashioned manager would sort out contracts and wages, he’d be meeting with scouts looking at targets, he’d take training sessions, work on set pieces, his door would be open to chat to players with issues and days off would be spent at games watching rivals and scouting players... Thomas and now Heckingbottom don’t have to worry about any signings or contracts or relocation of players, Orta does all that. We have some guy called head of opposition analyst so the new coach doesn’t have to analyse the opponents, we have sports scientists, fitness coaches, a player liaison officer, set piece coach, I wonder what a coach has to do apart from pick the team. If he can’t ensure a players fitness with such backroom luxuries it’s pretty poor. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_United_F.C. Just scroll to the bottom, it’s astonishing the list of backup a coach now has.
Ristac the Spaniard will be on a contract, PH new guy brought in and given a title which puts him above the Spaniard but the Spaniard will either be helping the new guy with his set-up and data before leaving or is sitting it out until his contract paid up. The future of football is the DoF way because that's the system used everywhere except here. If here was best and all the trophy's were won by clubs and national teams from here, everyone would adopt our way, they don't because we win fook all. yet the new system is already working at England kid level as we are U17 World Champions and U20 European champions. The days of Big Mick and Bruce are almost over mate and even PH said he was taken away from coaching at Barnsley to deal with everything and wanted to employ an employment specialist and a plumber to help him out. The top guy for looking at opposition cannot get to every game so has a delegate to go and video it. They all sit around watching the videos and if something special needs a second look the top guy goes to do it. Ever see the film 'Moneyball' data and sats are used more and more today
Effing hell, more back room staff than players from 18 upwards, is there any wonder a lot of clubs struggle financially. If we have an opposition analyst, then TC must've been ignoring him, TC said many times he knew what to expect from the opposition, but didn't seem to do anything to combat it. If TC did listen to him, which I doubt, then the opposition analyst needs replacing fast. I agree Ristac, if the players / team have all those luxuries, then Radz needs to take a good look at why things weren't happening on pitch. I wonder who's the head ice maker for the ice baths. When you mentioned all those back room staff, it sounded like a 5 star hotel for celebrities only....
The clubs staff just dont concentrate on the first team you know. We have an academy of kids from 8yrs and upwards, we have Under 17s, 18s, 21s & 23s and some of that backroom talent will be loaned to the ladies too
No idea and don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, I’m just saying that with so many in place it would be criminal if the team were unfit, there are no excuses and if I were Rads I’d be questioning who wasn’t doing their job when I was shelling out so much in wages. Doc I searched Leeds United Ladies team and they have their own coaches, they even have Leeds Ladies junior coaches. Rads really has assembled a lot of “tools for the job”.
Wasn't meant as a dig Ristac. Just wondered how we compared to other clubs to see if we've over filled the coaching staff or whether we were defecient in the past and have been brought up to a professional level.
I’d imagine we were miles behind the rest after Cellino came in and sacked everyone, didn’t take it as a dig pal
