A well deserved point. Crazy after we scored, but Wilder tried to 'manage'a win after going in front and I'll bet he regrets it now. We kept probing and a brilliant assist from Earthy for Sykes to score. Well done lads.
I only bothered to watch highlights and it was a good feisty comeback for a valuable point against one of the best teams out there. The travesty of our situation in regards to making the play-offs is that we have shot ourselves in the foot so many times over the season and those given away points could make the difference in whether we make it or not. Based on what I have seen over the season we really don't deserve a place in the play-offs due to our inconsistency and can't even begin to think who out of our lot could adjust and thrive in the Premiership? Not too many in my books and having to basically get yourself an 80% new squad to compete up there would probably leave us out in the dark when looking at potential new players capable of meeting the high standards that are required to stick around up there. Obviously we would all cheer for the lads if they made it to Wembley and won there but what about the next season fighting for every scrap and point against teams that on paper are world class against the cider boys.
Played some great football but we need to go more central-to much down the sides and backwards football. Strikers look at the difference between the sides they bring on Hamer and Moore. They would be better than our front end by a mile.
Incredibly magnanimous. He said 'we didn't deserve to win, they would have felt hard done by if they'd lost the game'. As for the penalties he said 'we were clutching at straws asking for a penalty late on'.
Fair shout to the ref as well. Thought he was excellent. Didn’t always agree with his decisions, but he was constant and even handed. Couple of penalty shouts for both teams, strangely enough for similar incidents and was consistent with those as well, one for either side where the ball went to hand, neither given, both teams had a coming together where the attacker( in our case twine) just stopped so the defender ran into their back to then just fall over, theirs was at the end when Pring did the same, his momentum meant he ran into their player. With the home crowd baying for blood he did well to stick to his guns.
I was watching it with a bunch of young Sunderland fans who were watching their own game vs PNE on the adjacent tv. Nice bunch of lads - very friendly - and very complimentary about us. They wanted us to win too. I said exactly the same RR. Possession is all well and good but I think Armstrong’s header was about the first time we ever got into their box, whereas for all their lack of possession, Sheffield United had several dangerous penetrations into ours. Much better after the substitutions and really threatened. Deserved the equaliser in the end. Great battling result against a top side in this league playing on their own patch. Well done Liam and the lads
Thought Sykes and Earthy did really well when they came on. Whereas Mehmeti, like he did against Hull, ran down blind alleys. Supcon's mate Tanner and my mate Vyner deserve great credit last night.
I think one of them - possibly Vyner - very nearly played a Sheffield United player in by an awful back pass. My heart was in my mouth. It’s not on the highlights I posted but we got away with one on that occasion. Both Tanner and Vyner made some critical interceptions though.
Come on now RP, unlike you with Zak, I have acknowledged that Tanner has progressed significantly under LM. How was your other mate, Max’s performance. I’m in India with work so miss 3 bloody games this week Just seen the highlights from the post above, looks like your bestie Dickie had a bit of a mare, at fault for their goal, and his blushes spared by a great save from Max in the first half….
Supcon One day someone might tell O'leary about angles and positioning. The 'save' at his near post was going wide, he was far to his right, the striker should have scored, massive space to O'leary's left. And why didn't O'leary come out to their goalscorer and narrow the angle, he just sat on his ass.....a bit like the Hull goal last Saturday.
