In Liverpool (not sure about anywhere else) they call people from out of town (just the suburbs or nearby towns like St Helens, etc) woolly-backs. I think it used to refer to people working on the docks in their woolly-backed jackets rather than sheep per se.

In all honesty though the term is just a mildly pejorative word for anyone not seen as "local" and can be pretty much aimed at anyone by anyone for any perceived crime of not being local. It doesn't stand up to any logical, geographical reasoning.


Wools speak like Wools and not scousers and like egg chasing. St. Helens, Wigan, Widnes, Warrington etc.
 
So basically this is like the opposite of Pointless?

But we can still call it Pointless.
