I don't get why rugby players don't really celebrate - If I had put England in the lead with 20 seconds to go I would have gone completely insane. Seriously, he gives a smile and a hi-five and jogs back!

Pretty harrowing and disturbing stuff, mainly because of how accurately it portrayed the mindset of British society, the almost sadistic thirst for seeing people demean and humiliate themselves, and the poor souls who are either forced to entertain them through circumstance or simply choose to due to some bizarre hunger for attention.

I didn't blame the lead character (who looked just like Bassong I thought) for selling out in the end. He gave an impassioned and heartfelt diatribe against them and had it dismissed as a gimmick. He could've became a martyr and killed himself at the end, but what's the point? It wouldn't have changed anything, they're all too vacuous to understand, I'd have taken the easy life as well.

    I'd rather die. :emoticon-0119-puke:

    Anyone see this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/16112188

Why are people even researching that? Imagine meeting a lass and having to explain to her that you study ostrich boners for a living. :undecided:

could talk about the original idea of trade agreements and stuff why it was originally formed.
you've also got the current example of eurozone crise and not just financial but cultural eg British supermarkets selling eastern european foods.

I think I had to talk about the Maastricht Treaty which formed the basis of the EU's control of monetary and social policy.. at least I hope I had to...

Yeah I had to talk about how it was originally formed as well as the Eurozone too <ok> recent events have made politics a bit more interesting!

Hmm nice ... sounds like fun.

You could take a contrary view. Is it really unique?

The UK itself is the result of regional integration ... as are many of the other members, Germany, France, Spain and Italy are good examples. Spain for instance has self governing regions such as Catalonia and Galicia each with very different cultural history and their own languages. Before the EU Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg had already formed a union in relation to trade and border control when forming the Benelux. Russia, India and the USA are unions of Republics or States. There was also the United States of Central America consisting of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua during the 1800's. Given time and a bit of research i'm sure you could find further examples and flesh out an argument.

It could be argued that not only is the EU not unique it isn't even a new idea. Just a thought :)
