No, I'd welcome him as our manager. I just don't know exactly what advice he would be able to offer on an appointment at Ipswich Town?

Why would you welcome him though Lancs? I'm not fully against him (as I am with Megson) but I wouldn't be overly pleased if he was appointed as I don't think he (currently) has enough knowledge, experience or tactical know how to be a success as manager and we would in essence be his education. Which is why I would prefer (be happier) if it were the likes of Tisdale or Hill who have atleast had experience in the game even if it is lower league

Just a gut feeling KoPR. Gary Neville doesn't have any managerial experience but it's through playing at the highest level that you learn where the percentages are.

Shearer has common sense in abundance and wouldn't accept mediocrity. I think there's a link there with Sir Bobby that Shearer would treat with the utmost respect.

As for the easy games comment, we were the whipping boys and he was entirely right to say that.

I can't believe that you would want Shearer here! I cant stand the bloke especially after he took the piss out of us on TV a few years ago. The guy has no charisma and his managerial record speaks for iyself! It would be Keane mk11 but this time round it would end in certain relegation. Shearer can jog on! <ok>

really? on what basis??? there is no logic behind an appointment like that so would love to know your reasons for backing such a move (not that i think he'll get it)

*edit. apologies. just seen the question (and answer) have already been given <ok>

i also think yorkie is completely wrong with his view of shearer. appoint him and you are as good as down as far as i'm concerned <ok>

Well there is not just one way to succeed (and there are plenty of others I would rather see in the dugout). Nobody here could possibly have made worse errors of judgement than Clegg and Evans up to now.

The last MOTD2 with Alan Shearer and Mick McCarthy showed how out of touch the former Newcastle striker is. Although McCarthy's managerial track record isn't the most glittering he has been in the game for long enough to know the relevance of differing tactics. In the highlights programme McCarthy said you should zonal mark in certain scenarios, Shearer wanted man-to-man - while not groundbreaking it shows that pundits don't necessarily know what they are talking about...

Experience smexperience.... someone that has a perfect track record and a lot of experience would already be employed at a higher level, so whomever we hire will either be inexperienced or come with a certain amount of dodgy history.

Whichever way we go i shall give the new manager the time to do what he/she is hired to do and not judge them on their past or lack of....
