I'm trying that on my birthday on Saturday, along with various other pick up lines that I've been meaning to try while I've been out.

Also good. It's a shame Ace didn't make an appearance in the latest season.

Really good film that and you're right. It was a role only he could portray because of his facial expressions.

    Brilliant actor/comic.

    RIP

If you were a student in the 80's then Young Ones was a must watch. I met many Riks in my time-quite brilliant observation. He was a brilliant actor. Anyone else remember Kevin Turvey? I think that was his first gig on TV.

Yep, I remember the Kevin Turvey character. Sort of a younger, much more innocent version of Rik in the Young Ones, and without the wafer thin confidence.

Ade Edmondson's tribute to Rik Mayall:

"There were times when Rik and I were writing together and we nearly died laughing. They were some of the most carefree, stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he has died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard."

*sigh*....Another one of the heroes of my youth passes on.
There are countless examples I could use to represent Rik's brilliance, but his potrayal of Alan B'Stard stands out. He was the sleazy, Thatcherite of the late 1980s and 1990's that successive electoral wins cultivated and their belief that they were unaccountable and had ultimate power.
If you never lived through those days then have a look at this biting piece of satire....

RIP Rik, gone, but never forgotten, your work will live on.

I thought this was very good. The points and comparisons he makes are funny yet sadly true. Seeing John Oliver also reminded me that I hadn't listened to the satirical podcasts he does with another guy for a while, and I must catch up. It's called The Bugle, and if you are into satirical (mainly UK and US) news then I advise checking it out.
