It was suggested for one of our two European Qualifying ties and knocked back by the council, mainly Terry ****witt Geraghty saying the park wasn't suitable. But surprisingly it was suitable a couple of weeks later when Hull Fc were allowed to have a fans park there. The one at Craven Park is a huge success.
Short sighted in the extreme in that case. I imagine the one at Craven Park helps fans feel part of the club which can’t be a bad thing
Yeah it feels super annoying that there’s a prime location with West park to do it. Even having a few food trucks on the walkway or something just to add to the venue. I imagine if we owned the stadium something would’ve been done
Before Pearson the catering at Boothferry Park was atrocious. One or two garden shed type outlets dotted around the ground serving tea, coffee, bovril, tiger cola and waggon wheels yet even with such a limited choice the chances of getting served with a coffee during the half time interval were zilch. Along with an interested friend we realised the missed opportunity and approached the club and asked if we could rent one of the empty 'sheds' on the land alongside the South Stand. Our plan was to sell pie and peas ( I had a contact at a local bakers) and a better selection of stuff then the sweet shop type stuff the other outlets were selling. We were turned down flat because someone had a franchise on all the refreshment facilities at the ground.
When was that? I remember the club shop at Fer ark being in, I want to say, a small single story white building that had a school canteen type feel? Might even have just been a metal shed. I remember as a smaller child a blonde lady and an older lady used to work in there in the 90’s and I loved them, wanted to go in and say hello every week I really can’t remember that much of boothferry park now, which is bad because I was high school age by the time we moved out
You missed off those horrible savoury biscuit things 'fish and chips' for the full set. The food was weird back then to say the least - no crisps or chocolate like Mars or Marathons -just ****ing Wagon Wheels and aforementioned savoury biscuits.
Long time ago but from memory I think they took the social club off us in the very early 80's. It was situated under the North Stand and accessible from some metal stairs. Although you get get into it direct from the seating area. I believe it had the longest bar in the city at the time. One memory I had was a Saturday afternoon v Swansea. The game was called off very late about 2.30 after a torrential downpour. One coach of Swansea fans had just arrived on the car park and they asked quite politely if they could use the club, get a drink, maybe a sandwich and use the toilet etc before setting off back to Wales. The chairman, Syd Stamp, was on the door and asked if they were members? Of course they weren't so he wouldn't let them in. The very first club shop was under the South Stand which opened when the stand opened. It was quite novel at the time because we hadn't had a club shop before. There was a blonde haired lady who worked in there for many years. Remember it being packed on a matchday and it sold all sorts of useless black and amber nick nacks, plus pen knives and previous games home programmes. My favourite was the round car stickers which were about the only thing I could afford at 6p each. I didn't have a car obviously, being still at school, but I stuck the car stickers all over the place. There was another club shop built into the supermarket on the main car park in the 90's and that eventually doubled up as a ticket office. We also had a club shop in Paragon Square near Duncans gunshop in a property owned by Richard Cheetham, ex City director and one time chairman. That was tiny and manned by a couple of elderly ladies. I once bought a club jersey from there with the club crest on it and remember them saying 'that's our biggest sale of the week'.
I remember getting those ‘earnest’ Goals that Count vids from there in the dire early 90s. Thinking back, probably would have been ideally decoys for keeping blueys in as no one else was likely to try and watch them. I also one time wiped out their stock of scratch cards or some kind of instant lotto they did, I bought one with some spare change and each one I did, won the equivalent of buying another card or two, and this continued until all ten or so they had left were vanquished,
Yeah, I'd heard this as well. Some suppliers have been refusing to accept payment so that people have ammunition to say we're paying suppliers late. It was a plan cooked up by someone called Jim, don't know any more details. Mmmm, waggon wheels. An amber tinged madeleine.
