    This took some finding!
Glad to report he celebrated his first birthday a couple of weeks ago. Now weighs about 11 pounds.
Been an absolute rollercoaster of a year, loads of set backs and sleepless nights, but he is doing fantastic!

My niece was born premature, weighing just over 2lb, that was 24 years ago, she's now 13 weeks pregnant.

Amazing stuff mate. Even more so in your nieces case! When you think how much technology has improved in the past 20 years, it’s nothing short of a miracle that she not only survived, but went on to have kids herself :emoticon-0150-hands

Yes definitely mate, for the first 4 weeks, we didn't think she'd make it, once they took her out the incubator, the relief was enormous. Another amazing thing was it really only took her to being about 3, that she caught up with the kids in her age group and there was no difference in her abilities.
One of my other niece's was born 3 months after this one and was just under 10lb, the difference was unbelievable.

I only recently found out about how poor humans are at giving birth, an unfortunate side effect of our evolution.

The technology and medicines involved with child birth are incredible.

Nah, it’s not just humans, it’s all large mammals. That’s why lambing season is such a busy time for sheep farmers; they can’t just trust the sheep to get on with it unaided.

A lot of it is down to human intervention in the first place, too much selective breeding

Their is so much selective breeding with horses that mares are artificially inseminated and the stallions have to be "milked" to provide the sperm

The girls that do the milking can earn a fortune on certain websites

What Duggie Said. Its very common in mammals we humans have bred for specific purposes.

Its not an evolutionary fail in that sense and a human fail.
