I think we may have missed our chance, though I still think Clarke was the one that scuppered it. It worries me with Aluko, he will wait until February to see where we are in the league before deciding whether to sign or not.
Who were the people who said Long wasn't a goal scorer and wouldn't improve us? We've got **** all chance of signing him now. I notice the club didn't deny the fact we tried to change the terms of the deal. Missed out on a player that would have hugely improved our attacking threat.
Would have been a cracker of a signing. We changed terms which pissed off WBA and then went back with the same terms. Understandable they were annoyed. The fact we went back proved that money was there too
The fact that we did that is embarrassing and shows us up as a bit Mickey Mouse. It shows a lack if respect to Long too. If I was him I'd have nowt to do with us.
Total ****up that one was. We agreed a deal and tried to **** them about afterwards. Bruce admitted after the event that we tried to change the deal after it had been agreed, Clarke said he'd never have accepted those terms if we offered them in the first place so he pulled the plug. I don't even think it was about the fee, just the structure of the payment. I.e. a lot less up front.
I was one, one game doesn't make a season though. Saw the 2nd goal, great finish. His record proves he doesn't score enough goals at this level. I still think he's not what we need.
I think your wrong Ben. His PL record is the best we could hope for - his all round game is exceptional. Show me a striker within our reach for £5m that could do a better job?
He's an 8 goal a season striker in this league. I'd be gutted if we spent £2m on him in Jan when he can leave for nowt in the summer. We need goals & his record shows he's not doing it at this level. Of course he could bang in another half dozen before Jan & if does he won't be coming anyway. I'd be going for Vokes, Rhodes, Ings. Guidetti would be worth a loan punt if graham returns.
The problem with all those you have named is I don't think any of them have a PL goal between them. I'd rather have someone that at least has a track record in this division.
Genuine question. Where do you think you'd be now if Long had signed in the summer? Do you believe he'd have made a difference?
I don't understand this we don't need a proven premier league striker we should be taking an expensive punt on a championship forward instead ???
Hard one to answer, but you would have expected him to score some of the sitters Danny Graham has missed (No disrespect to Danny - he just isn't scoring at the moment) Maybe 4-6 points better off? Cardiff draw and losing at home to Palace are two games that spring to mind. Although Palace was as much about picking players out of position.
I'm t convinced Long would have made a huge difference. I really like him as a player but our problem is creating not finishing. Actually Long might have helped us create a bit more with better movement. So yeah we'd be top.
I think if he'd been playing alongside Danny Graham they'd both of scored with Graham scoring more. He'd enhance Graham's game but he's not the goal scorer many believe he is.
It's because he's proven to score 8 goals a season in this league. Therefore, if we get him for half a season, based on previous seasons in the PL, we're likely to get around 4 goals out of him. His assist record is also poor at this level.
