Still our player until the summer. Sevilla FC, 7th in La Liga, want him, but he's not good enough for us.

Think I read he's not playing much though - true?

17 games this season, out injured for a month and a half in total. But if they want him, presumably they see something in him, just like the Champions League team wanted Granero.

Paul/DT is right, we spend way too much time slagging off our own players. I'm turning over a new leaf, and will try to refrain from this practice in future. I'll even try to maintain a dignified silence on Barton, even when you and Igor put him forward for Pope and President of the World. I'll slip up, but I'm sure you will remind me.

Still open season on H Redknapp Esq though.

Personally I just judge them on their performances for us. Mbia and Granero were both, overall, absolutely appalling. Granero even got a game in the Championship and was dreadful that day too.

They're probably both talented players given the clubs they've played for and/or can still attract but there wouldn't be any point signing Lionel Messi if he can't be bothered to play.

I am going to try and test your resolve here; how would you respond if I said Luke Young?

That's more than fair enough mate, I'm only speaking for myself. A lot of our players have deserved criticism and will continue to do so. And if we all refrained from criticising this place would be pretty dull. Just that I'm tired of doing it and will attempt to withhold my tuppence ha'penny worth in future, until I've either thought of something positive to say or decide to say nothing at all.

My weak spot found, though he doesn't count as he doesn't actually play for us. I would respond - "bloody".

And this commitment will be quickly forgotten when I'm standing next to you in the ground and some dickhead passes the ball 10 yards over the intended target's head. Muttering FFS then is just a reflex reaction, totally unconscious.

What happened with Luke Young? As far as I'm aware he was doing ok for us for a bit then got injured then frozen out by Hughes, made to train with the kids etc. I've noticed he's been on the bench once or twice. What's he done to be the subject of people's ire?

For some here, there's only one Bloody Luke Young .

I do remember him scoring a couple of good goals in our 1st Premier League season though?

As it happened (in my head at least) he was doing ok, then kicked the ground taking a free kick in the home game we lost against Wolves (when Cisse sent off.....). Went off immediately, came back and was pretty poor (remember that abject game against Sunderland away, when Taiwo scored?). Since then disappeared entirely with a season plus long hip injury. He is clearly never going to play for us again, even in the direst circumstances, if we play BAE right back rather than him.

He's on a big wage, and I suppose I can't blame him for running down his contract and being paid for nothing. The irritation for me is that, if this injury was genuine, he could easily have come to an accommodation with the club and called time on his career. At 34 or however old he is, no one would have blamed him. I remember he virtually went on strike at Villa, agitating for a move to London, which he got when we went panic buying (Barton, SWP, Ferdinand, him.....all on long contracts and massive wages. Thankfully we have learned). Possibly I'm misreading the whole thing, and he's had two years of hard work and frustration trying to get fit, but I'm afraid my impression is that playing football is not his top priority.

So much for my 'non critical' pledge...but I plead mitigating circumstances on Bloody Luke Young.
