The sunny south coast
Bassong, Turner, Bennett, Martin, Cuellar, Miquel, Hooiveld.....have I missed anyone?!

Does seem a bit over the top, even allowing for Bassong leaving and Martin reverting to right back.

First choice pair? Turner and Hooiveld my guess.

Turner and Hoiveld first choice, very strong competition from Bennett and Cuellar. Miquel plays league cup matches and covers injuries. Seems the perfect set of central defenders to me.

Martin is a right back and Bassong is a f@*k..

I'm hoping that's a sign that Martin will move to right back. I think if Bennett hadn't got that injury, we'd have only seen one of Hooiveld and Miquel coming in. I think, as you say, Turner and Hooiveld will be first choice with Cuellar and Miquel (until Bennett is fit again) as back up.

I think once you put it like that it is fairly sensible.

McFadden, Gafaiti? Really I think we'd have only gone for 1 CB on deadline day if Bennett wasn't injured. Two on that list are only here for the season (Ceullar and Hooiveld) and Bassong will be gone soon.

... and Bassong is a f@*k..

<laugh>

But essentially what RT said.

With Bennett out injured for the medium term, Martin not a fully-fledged CB and Bassong in self-imposed exile, it's really only four CBs and Martin as cover. I suspect Turner will pick up an injury a couple of times, so it probably is a position where we need particular depth.

Get Matyin back to RB where he is strongest
Bassong does not count anymore
Poor Bennett probably out for a few months
Leaves four which us about right with the youngsters
Backing them up

I wonder if Bennett might go out on loan once he's fit, to get over the injury and get a run of games.

I'd hope he'll be fit by Christmas, so we can assess that one nearer the transfer window. If nobody is particularly struggling for form, and a couple of fringe CB's are barely getting a kick, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone (perhaps Bennett or Miquel) go out on loan. These signings also make it possible for Gafaiti and Callan-McFadden to go out on loan once the loan window opens next week.

I'd imagine a few of our young uns wil go out on loan once the loan window opens - as well as Gafaiti and McFadden I'd suspect Jacob Murphy as well, possibly Loza too once Hooper is fit again ?

What if we were to play 3 at the back? and then 5 in midfield with 2 up front?
Could be a little like this?

Ruddy

Martin/ Turner/ Hooiveld
E Benno/Tettey/Wes/Johnson or Vaadis/Ollson
Grabban/Hooper

Could Benno and Ollson then play like wing backs? defending when needed but also running forward?

Liverpool game was 4-1-2-1-2 I think. Our midfield got over run. He changed it pretty quick to 4-5-1 and we got back into the game.

With Bennett injured for the next few months, we had no left sided CBs. It therefore makes sense to get two left-sided CBs in - one experienced, one 21 and still developing. We also have two right-sided CBs and Martin who can also play there. I make that 4 CBs for the next few months, five after that.
