I've not heard him say we're too slow tbh. I also think everything they do on the pitch is as he has intructed them to do it. In my mind we have a quality squad and if you put any one of a number of quality managers in, they'd be having us ripping apart most defences tbh. I have absolutely no doubt about that.
I think the match against Leicester last season has scarred him He seems to prioritise solidity over flair. His squad is quality no doubt and the players have the ability to cut defences. But they have to take risks and could be stranded upfield on a counterattack. We lost against Swansea when one defenders was caught out in the other half. Sooner or later the players will learn to find the right balance. I hope. The so called quality managers have to also buy the right players to play their preferred system. Brenda bought benteke for £33m but I don't think he quite fits his system. Do they pass the ball or do they now play long balls or crosses ? If the players are good then LVG must take some credit.
Yeh but you don't get credit for buying good players. You get credit for getting them to play to their potential (and above that in some cases). Ours are playing within themselves. There are plenty of quality managers out there (not Rodgers) who would get this team playing a more fluid and attacking style while also keeping us defensively just as strong.
Harsh. No one can dispute that our players can deliver much more than they are at the moment. I am hoping that they will get more accustomed to the system and to playing with each other and suddenly it will all fall into place.
Reports in the papers today are suggesting that Pep Guardiola is our preferred choice next summer. I'm not sure what to make of that, as I'm not the biggest fan of possession football. I've always preferred the way Real play for example, than the way Barca play, and I don't see Guardiola getting away from that possession based philosophy anytime soom. I suppose in some ways it would be a like for like change, though Guardiola takes possession football to the extreme http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-eyeing-pep-guardiola-6475262
Mate there's possession football and then there's possession football. Pep's style is still far more attacking than Van Gaal's - although I'm not necessarily saying Pep would be a good choice. Pep, however still breeds confidence and plenty of freedom of expression in his players. I agree though, I always preferred Real's style given the choice.
I'd just as soon we played in the style of Manchester United if I'm perfectly honest. You know, fast attacking football with wingers and such like, rapid counter attacks. Remember that? Or Is that called Real Madrid's style nowadays? Why the **** do we have to copy anyone, it's not like as a club we're new to this football malarkey?
Ryan Giggs Manager and Gary Neville assistant, remember you head it here first motherfuckerssssssssss
Football moves on. We don't play the same way we did 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 years ago. I would also prefer we didn't copy Madrid, seeing as its brought them relatively little success compared with others.
Our style that we used to play under Fergie that won us the treble is a dated way of playing that wouldn't cut it in modern football, and even Fergie towards the end evolved his team to play a more modern way. You just can't leave the centre of midfield that exposed these days, unless you are playing very weak opposition. Real Madrids style these days is different to our old trademark 442 with wingers style. There's is usually a 4231 with the wide men cutting in, and the full backs supplying the width instead. Both styles are fairly attacking, and direct, but that's the only similarities
We're not in America pal, so no need to use the language. Either way if it's such 'garbage' then maybe you could enlighten me on a modern side who's had success in Europe playing 442 with 2 wingers crossing it in. It just doesn't cut it these days. Even Fergie when we had our best purple patch in Europe getting to 3 finals out of 4, played a completely different way to how we won it in 99
If you can refer me to the bit where I said I want us to play like we did in '99 then then I'll happily indulge you in conversation. Otherwise, **** off. Pal.
Well the fact you described my comments on our old way of playing as garbage, should be a big enough clue and as for the last part, no need to get all keyboard warrior on me
Fake's like you need to learn who to lecture. Again, at what point did I say that I want us to play like we did in '99? <massivebigfuckinggrin>
Maybe you should actually explain your point, rather than just throwing around silly American insults. Though if you think Real Madrids style is the United way then you obviously don't watch enough football to offer many points
Really? From the bloke who said that Germany were too old the win the world cup and Argentina wouldn't get out of their group? Really? I never once compared our style to anyone else's. Not once. I was merely, correctly, pointing out that we do not need to copy anyone's style. Spanish clubs didn't just recently invent football, unless I'm very much mistaken. United have always played with pace and flair, it doesn't have to be 4 4 2. Right now, we don't. It's slow and it's pedestrian. The introduction of Martial has improved things a bit but it's still ponderous at times. I'd like us to play with some pace, not just knock the ball about in front of the opposition. It's always been our style, until very recently, To suggest otherwise is ludicrous and to suggest it's someone else's style is even more so. By the way, being an armchair fan doesn't make you an expert, just so you know.
It's actually quite a compliment that you have to go back to over a year ago to prove I called 1 thing wrong, and even then you've heavily exaggerated it. I never said anything about Argentina not getting past the likes of Iran, Nigeria and Bosnia only thing I said was that Germany would be running on empty in the knockout stages due to there group being so tough, it had nothing to do with there age. I haven't suggested playing with pace and flair wasn't our style, you have just put 1 and 1 together and come up with 3. I just said I prefer Reals way to Barcas, I wasn't saying we needed to copy eithers way of playing though
No, it just stuck in my mind as proof of what an absolute arse you were last time you tried lecturing me on my assessment of something. Let's just say me saying the final would be Germany v Aregentina pre tournament was correct and you were well, wrong. I'd just as soon you didn't use your skewed poetic licence. Playing with pace doesn't mean going back to 1999. It means playing with pace.
